Mumbles
You know, there is actually a pyrotechnical device called a meteor. It's a bit different from a comet. Generally one takes a 3" shell, and places a very short spolette in it(1/4" at the max). The spolette is place flush with the exterior of the shell and primed with BP slurry. The entire shell is then rolled in star comp building up about 1/16 to 1/8" at a time. Much more and you start breaking it off due to the mass. This is continued until it becomes an appropriate size to shoot from a 4" mortar.
mormanman
Mormanman, it's an honorable endeavor. I can respect the decision not to drink/smoke but not attempt to force that choice on others. That being said, there is something about drinking with somebody that makes it more enjoyable. There is also something to be said about providing your alcohol of preference. It's more personal. You can tell a lot about a person by the kind of alcohol they offer you. I'm not trying to influence you to drink/smoke, but it's delicious and good for you * - Yes, it exists. Less alcohol and you get a hangover before a buzz.I don't know really how do take this because some parts I take two ways. Like when you say "but not attempt to force that choice on others." I don't know if your talking about me asking people if they want a drink or you suggesting that I should try it (but that is the blow up way of saying it.) Also I will probably never drink it I'm sorry but maybe a taste or smell here and there.Swede. I enjoyed reading that. I do agree that if your going to smoke, smoke cigars or pipes and if not that the at least pack your own cigarettes. IMHO, cigars and pipes and hand rolled cigarettes look more classy, the first two being the first of class. I don't agree with the dipping, yuck. I hate the way it looks but if you do tobacco around me don't ever smoke a cigarette. I honestly don't understand how people can smoke them. It smells awful. But if your going to be doing tobacco. Make sure your just dipping and snuffing in the work shop
Swede
But if your going to be doing tobacco. Make sure your just dipping and snuffing in the work shop You've never seen an experienced dipper because... they're invisible! If you see some goob with a big fat dip in a lower lip, drooling, and carrying a spit cup, he's a new boy, uncouth, and impolite. It's the same as blowing smoke in someone's face. An experienced dipster guts the spit (no spitting) and the "chaw" is positioned in such a way that you can't even tell it's there. Chew a piece of gum. When it's soft, flatten it out (with your tongue) position it in your upper jaw, way back, between your molars and cheek. That's how it's done. Yes the grossness factor is still there. But not 1/100th as gross as a cigarette. I could meet with and talk to the POTUS and he'd never know my nicotine delivery system is in place. My house does not smell. I can "smoke" anywhere... including restaurants and airplanes. I've tried quitting several times. I get so depressed, life sucks and I have no motivation to do anything. That went on for a YEAR before I finally gave up.
Mumbles
My last comment was kind of a joke. What I meant to say is that it's nice to see that just because you're choosing not to drink/smoke, you are not forcing that choice upon other people. You're providing it for them if they choose to partake. Perhaps I didn't portray what I meant quite as well. It does seem that I favor you to start drinking rather than getting my point across. If you ever need a reason to not use tobacco try picking it. The pure amount of crap that gets all over you and your clothes from walking through it is enough reason to decline. Thats not to say I've never partaken, but it'd be enough for many. Long story short, if you ever chew Red Man, you might get a little piece of me with it. Mumbles
... I'm also lucky that I live about an hour away from the most excellent Brewery Ommegang, a real Belgian Abby brewery...it's great to be able to get their stuff in the local grocery store. Speaking of which, have you by any chance tried this one? http://www.ommegang.com/index.php?mcat=1&a...at=7&ssnl=1 It's the first time I saw a seasonal release around here. It looks tempting. I've tried 4 of the year round 5(kinda hard to find Rare Vos). By the way Rich, you can't go wrong with the quad. It's hard to believe it's brewed in the US. Easily one of the best beers I've ever had.
tentacles
Okay, I read this today and it is just hilarious: "Students from Richard Montgomery High School dubbed the prank the Speed Camera "Pimping" game, according to a parent of a student enrolled at one of the high schools. Originating from Wootton High School, the parent said, students duplicate the license plates by printing plate numbers on glossy photo paper, using fonts from certain websites that "mimic" those on Maryland license plates. They tape the duplicate plate over the existing plate on the back of their car and purposefully speed through a speed camera, the parent said. The victim then receives a citation in the mail days later. Students are even obtaining vehicles from their friends that are similar or identical to the make and model of the car owned by the targeted victim, according to the parent.' There goes the integrity of the speed camera "system". GOOD RIDDANCE!

My two favs are the year-round ones, in no particular order:Hennepin Farmhouse SaisonOmmegang Abbey AleStill making up my mind on this one: Three Philosophers Quadrupel I can state that cellaring the Saison and Ale for a year in my basement wine rack did the brew justice...They do it in a cave and my basement is just as cool where the wine is. I've subsequently put up the better part of 2 cases of the two to age.
