Richtee
Then again, gigantic threads like this don't make it much easier either. But what about the sausage beating??? LOL!
mormanman
Mormanman, Farfalle is not a star. More like a hummer or spinner. Look on rec.pyro. The comp I use is 90% BP, 10% Ti(40-60 mesh).Darn, oh well thanks Mumbles. On another note I can start making MgAl today. I just need to know in what order to do it. I'll be looking it up soon. mormanman
I went to the tutorials and read. I made some Al ingots yesterday. Bullet cases and Al cans is what the "alloy" is.
FrankRizzo
Ammunition cartridges are made from an aluminum alloy with a few percent zinc (~6%), copper (~2%), and magnesium (~1.5%). Ideally, you don't want the zinc or copper in your magnalium alloy because they may make the metal more susceptible to corrosion. Please try making magnalium with it and report your findings (less brittle, more reactive, etc.).
ITCHI
I guess I used a little to much commercial lift in a #10 coffee can cremora pot last night and it blew the calves milk substitute I use to high and/or to fast to ignite. You know how they say "just cover the bottom of the can" and you say to yourself "A little more can't hurt". optimus
Just heard this on the radio: Kinda makes me laugh and cry at the same time! http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/UK-News/M...215096103?f=rss "Krenar Lusha is accused of five offences, including one of possessing 4kg of potassium nitrate..... is accused of possessing terrorist material such as camouflage clothes...." Oh dear. So I guess I had better watch my ass, considering the 'terrorist material' I own. Since when were camo trousers illegal eh?

Mumbles
On the plus side, at least the atmosphere hasn't lit on fire over here yet. We could use a bit too. It's unseasonable cool actually. In all seriousness, I was sitting in a chemistry symposium, and partially expecting the building to collapse when half the eifel tower was propelled toward us from the explosion. mormanman
Made my MgAl and I didn't use the ammo casings, I didn't want to cut them into appropriate weights so I found a coupon of Al and used that. It works great. I mix it with some slow flash last night and it was bright and crackly. I'll get pictures if you want it.

flying fish
Just last night I tried one of those ridiculous energy drinks to keep me up all night for homework. It seemed to do an excellent job of drifting me far into the night without falling asleep, and it even seemed to help me concentrate (well, for a while at least...at a certain point my mind started to shut down even though my body was still wide awake with the caffeine!) But then this morning I did not feel so good...like a caffeine hangover or something... Well, I think I am going to take a short nap and then pull another all-nighter so I can hopefully finish up my homework! Piece of advice: Don't take quantum mechanics unless you need to...or if you are one of those genius types. It is a very tough course...mostly because it is so abstract that it is hard to grasp the concepts (if there actually are any to grasp, it is mostly just nonsense anyway). Well, it gets a little better talking about practical things (like band structure), but all around it is still a pretty whacky subject. But Dirac notation seriously pissed me off for a while there... Mumbles
I'm just getting into quantum mechanics. The professor seems nice and really knowledgable. I have a feeling the pain is coming though. Just so everyone knows, when I am completely insane and randomly babbling about canoes in the hallway in 3 months, it's because of Quantum mechanics. mormanman
I'm kind of nervous. I have a date to homecoming (first homecoming ever and I'm a junior in High school.) I am to poor/ don't want to spent money for a Mum and I don't know how to make one. My date is a girl just in case you were wondering anyway I don't know how to make a Mum. I need to see if kroger (where I work) will give me a discount of some kind and the floral decorator also works at my school so I'll talk to her. Also, I'm casting my own Class ring. Bonny
My date is a girl just in case you were wondering I was wondering...ya know being from Texas and all Just kidding. You might have to not buy any pyro stuff for a bit, a Mum (whatever the F*%^ that is...corsage??) can't be that expensive. For such a special occasion you may have to try and borrow the cash from parents or grandparents.
deadman
When I first moved to TX and my sister was getting ready for homecoming I thought a mum was like a corsage too, because she was making one for her boyfriend. It turns out to be a giant ribbon covered with flowers that is worn around the arm and can be long enough to drag on the floor. I think it is a crazy tradition, but whatever turns teens on. Do a youtube search for homecoming mum and there are quite a few techniques when making the mum. I say buy one. You're parents won't mind coughing up the dough for your first homecoming. Just so everyone knows, when I am completely insane and randomly babbling about canoes in the hallway in 3 months, it's because of Quantum mechanics. Mumbles, do yourself a favor. When the Prof teaches aspects of quantum mechanics, he'll probably use examples and couch it in layman's terms initially. Take note of all the good examples of the fascinating, utter strangeness that is QM, so when you try to explain it to friends later in life, you'll be able to. The things that happen at the quantum level are so bizarre - they're fun to discuss, but you need to be armed with those layman's examples; otherwise, your friends' eyes will glaze, and they'll think it's all babbling bullshit. Kind of like Special Relativity - "If you are in a spaceship at .999 C, and are crouched in back with a flashlight, then turn it on, facing forward, what will you see? What speed of light will you measure from the flashlight? How about the guy on a moon, watching you fly by... what will he measure?" Then you toss time into the mix, demonstrate that time is variable, not C, and the whole thing gets transcendental really fast. Have plenty of liquor on hand when you do. Enjoy it. I don't remember much, and I wish I did.

flying fish
I'm just getting into quantum mechanics. The professor seems nice and really knowledgable. I have a feeling the pain is coming though. Just so everyone knows, when I am completely insane and randomly babbling about canoes in the hallway in 3 months, it's because of Quantum mechanics. Part of the problem that I had was just that there very little information that is really tangible to macroscopic reality (or classical mechanics) so it isn't exactly intuitive. I have trouble paying attention and not drifting during any class, but this is especially problematic for QM where it is very difficult to just teach myself the material later (again for the reason that it is not intuitive). But I have to give my prof a lot of credit...he is very helpful in guiding us through the problems. If you can stay focused during class, then you should be in better shape than me. The notation and terminology can also be confusing if you don't make an effort to pick up on them right away. Dirac notation ("bras" and "kets") is an abstract way to represent vectors and is one of those things that you should probably pay attention to and learn how it works. "Operators" are also a core concept ("what do you get when you do something to a state?"). And also eigenvalues and eigenvectors are a good thing to review from linear algebra (if your professor doesn't provide a review for you). Overall it is pretty abstract stuff (at least at the introductory level)...even though it obviously does have practical application (like band structure for studying semiconductor materials being one example). I suppose QM gives people the initial tools to study more practical and/or interesting things later on. Just out of curiosity, what book are you using? We are using Griffiths. Oh, and I got an extension until monday on my QM homework. YAY! There goes my weekend...but on the bright side I'm not going to fail .
