Swany Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 Yeah, saw that. Sigh.... Well, heres the CPSC version: http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml06/06094.html I'm having loads of fun with my aqueous chemistry. I need a camera, then you can expect a large enough post to write a book.
Mumbles Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 For kraft paper, paper grocery bags and paper lunch bags will work. The grocery bags are about 60#, and the paper lunch bags around 30# ish. They will work well enough as long as you arn't pasting anything. If you are pasting ad a few extra layers. Note: Paste wrap on canister shells does not need extra layers.
Kilo_G Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 Here's the story with John (owner of Pyrotek) as told to me, by him a while ago, before he went to jail or knew he was going to jail..... Basically John signed a deal with the devil. The CPSC came to him and said that if he did not sign a deal with them they would take him to court. He signed the deal. The penalties of violating anything in deal were the obviouse. Which is why he is now in jail. Really it was just a ruse if you ask me, because I think the deal was just a big giant trap, i.e. no matter what they would have found a way to make it look like he "violated" it. The deal he signed, BTW, I've heard, included requiring him to give the CPSC all of the names/addresses of his customers. Which is why people got the DOJ letter. I DO NOT know this for a fact but it would make sense. John is a really good guy and I can't believe that this kind of shit has happened to him. 5 months in Fed pen is no fun. Thank god FireFox decided to fight instead of end up the same way! GOD DAMN IT GIVE MONEY TO THE FIREWORKS FOUNDATION!
PyroJoe Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 Yeah I figured it was not his fault at all. I have ordered from him once and he seemed nice. Now everybody who knows him will think he's some kind of terrorist if they dont know the real story... im glad fire fox is standing up! I'll be driving down to their store (which is 30 minutes away, i must brag) in about a week to pick up a bunch of chems! I read somewhere else that the same thing happened to Iowa Pyro Supply. They were fined a bunch of money and all kinds of crap.
aquaman Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 I thought this was america. And since when is selling chemicals to make flash and other compositions illegal (it's the user that makes the flash and thus making it illegal not the seller, right?)? I think the CPSC should take a step back and look at what they're doing. What their doing isn't going to stop anything. They're just going to limit the things that were going to be able to do. Like I can make my own aluminum powder (not as good) and I can get various oxidizers from hardware stores and garden shops. So as long as there are people that have "smelt the smoke" there'll always be pyrotechincs!
PyroPicasso Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 The joys of capitalism.. I guess the CPSC will start throwing smoke shop owners in jail because the materials they sell can be used to illegal drugs, or put gun shop owners in jail, because the things they sell can be used to kill someone. In your opinions is it a wise idea to order chemicals anymore from suppliers? Is this just another tactic to get people to stop buying like the DOJ letters or is this something more serious.
dragonman586 Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 I still don't get how he can be held accountabe. Don't most suppliers sites have a disclaimer saying that if you blow your ass up its not my fault? Pfft "Land of the free" for soccer moms maybe
BigBang Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 It's a shame, shit like this shouldn't be happening. As ya'll may or may not know, the CSPS and the BATFE came after the rocketry a few years ago. They made it so you need an LEUP to purchase motors with more than 62.5 grams of propellant. This meant anything above a G needs a permit. I am lucky enough to have a friend with an LEIP, so I was able to wriggle around this flying under his name. Tripoli and NAR (the national rocketry organizations) teamed up and took them to court. It took a long ass time, but we endeed up winning. It is most likely because of the majority of people involved in rocketry i.e. lawyers, docters, politicians, engineers, ect... We just won the fight and this restriction was gotten rid of. We still have to have an LEUP for Js and above but that has been around for many years, and isn't that bad. I think that these government organizations are now really pissed off that they lost and want to prevail over the pyrotechnics trade. Now they can focus on this part of the flame and really funk it up. EDIT: If anyone here wants to try a crappy red, try lancaster's perchlorate red. It's on the pfp database. It does however make an excellant pink.
fredjr Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 I have very busy at work lately and haven't been here in awhile. Anyways we just finished Cadwelding the grounds to the robots cell I'm working on. Was wondering if anyone knows the chemicals using in the reaction for a Cadweld.
Mumbles Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 Here is an MSDS for it. I think this is the same stuff you used. http://www.erico.com/public/library/MSDS/CADELEWM.pdf Nice to see you back around. Perhaps I could actually meet up with you this year at the PGI convention. You mentioned it last year, but I couldn't make it.
maximusg Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 It's a shame about the whole pyro distros getting the hard word put on them, but remember it wont be the end of ametuer pyro in the states. Here in aus, we dont have any pyro supply shops for chems, and we manage to do a fair amount of different items, very few are impossible to do. Keep ya chins up
dragonman586 Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 Hell I'm sneaking around as it is. If my parents even see me with brown paper and it's not a bag they go into a full CIA interrogation mode. I don't want to be constantly looking over my shoulder.
fredjr Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 I will definitely be at the PGI convention again this year, and probably every year from now on. Best vacation I ever had. I would like to meet up, always enjoy meeting other pyros. I have been working so much lately, I don't have much time for pyro. The cadweld material looks alot like flash power and was interesting to play with pyro stuff at work. Made me think of APC.
Draco_Aster Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 Does anybody know of any...FEMALES...on this forum? I have heard of there being quite a few female pyro's in the WPA and other large clubs.
Kilo_G Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 As far as I am aware, currently there isn't one female on this forum. I want to say, for some reason, that before I joined APC (the old forum) there was one. But other than that the answer to your question is a resounding no. Perhaps Mumbles can answer what I said about a femal pyro on the forum before I came. I have seen female pyro's (LOL talkin about them like it's bigfoot or something), but not to the extent that I saw in the winter blast video.
Swany Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 Spatula Tzar over at totse is supposibly female. Even though I am not biased to favor her, she is one of the brightest and best over there. She has a fairly randomly interesting website as well.
Pyrohawk Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 There have been atleast two female pyros that I remember from the old forum. But neither one stuck around for long.... They made a few posts then just left.
Draco_Aster Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 Now I see. Ha! Thats the first time I've ever bothered to look for the totse forum. I saw the homepage and all the crap on it like, "I rooted a 13 year old boy", and left. http://www.fat-pie.com/vdt.htm
Kilo_G Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 If you're thinking "S@ANDRA POWERS" at the old forum was a girl it was not.
BigBang Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 S@NDRA POWER wasn't a girl, but there was one on for a while, making maybe ten posts. She wasn't that bad actually. You are correct about the "original" female at xin. I came here way after that forum died but I hear alot from the old members. She was one of the top people at the xin forum, maybe a mod or an admin but I can't atest to that. I know I've seen a few women at rec.pyro. Heh, what a suasage fest!!! Oh, and happy birthday Chris!
Mumbles Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 Yeah, back on Xinventions we had a few female pyros. There was one called Nika(some numbers) that was was female. She was female, but retired. It is sad there are so many males in this hobby. Any girl of mine will have to be cool with it. Nika was a mod for a while. She was actually a mod when I first started out about 5 or 6 years ago. Believe it or not, there are females here. I know who they are. I imagine they don't want to be bothered though.
aquaman Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 I agree with mumbles, there probably are girls on here and they'd just don't want to be bothered. Look how much we've talked about them already and we're not even sure they're on here.
Rooster Posted March 10, 2006 Author Posted March 10, 2006 My ex was kinda into pyro while I was with her. She made a few rcandy rockets and stuff on her own, but never really smelt the smoke. She was also registered at the old forum as Chrizzy or something...
Pretty green flame Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 This has got to be the oldest one in the book, but it's still funny as hell. http://www.break.com/index/treadfall3.html Pyro girls ehh.... well my friends in school really like the stuff i make but none of them are really into making the stuff they just enjoy watching, well who doesn't.
