Might those shells have been Black Mamba?

I've bought a couple packages of them, and they ARE as good as Excaliburs.

I could probably have done some research before buying, but the shells I ended up with were plenty good. There was an inexpensive "generic" package called "Dragon Artillery Shell" that had a mortar plus 6 shells for something like $5, yet the shells were pretty nice. Being cheap, we daisy chained mortar tubes together so as to create a staggered multi-shot. Lots of fun.

The other reloadables we bought were Black Cat "BAR" (12 shells + tube) and the best of the night was a reloadable kit with two tubes and 18 canister shells. Those canister shells really popped, great lift, and some of the effects were excellent, especially the charcoal streamer with crackling core.

I focused on the mortars as being a traditional, but the rest of the group enjoyed the cakes, and some of the flying creations like stinger missiles and UFO's. If I do 1.4 again, I am going to take the time to make my own rack, throw out the cheap chinese tube, and really flood the sky with chained 1.4.

But hopefully my homemades will do better! My plan is to go to 3", maybe 4", bigger than 1.4 but not so big as to attract too much notice, as we were launching in an incorporated area. :)

Added: Oh yes, my little 1.75's worked fine, correct lift and timing, but my Bleser red blew too many blind. My Win23 glitters lit much better and worked nice. It's a good feeling!

Just looked at the box...the name of the shell kit was "Kiss of Death." Has a lot of good metallic streamer and some of them have colored stobe type effects as well, in that obnoxiously-big-for-a-consumer-shell break.

It has been years since I had excals, but these seemed fairly similar from what I remember. I can't remember if the excals had color stobe effects though.

I bought some time fuse from I think cannonfuse.com a long long time ago, like 2+ years. I found it to be about 2 sec per inch, is that about right? I thought time fuse was supposed to me 3 sec/in?

Isn't their some thing about it being Japanese of Chinese that makes a difference?

To get a good idea, you have to burn a significant portion, 8-10". My time fuse from cannon fuse clocked in at a tad under 3 sec an inch, about 2.8ish or so. Over time I would expect it to slow down not speed up. Might want to try a slightly longer section, maybe 3-4" to help average out human timing error.

I've always got the impression that California was one of those places that cracks down on everything fun (including possibly fun itself)...

Well..unless yer gay. Or Liberal. Or Weird. That's the only "fun" allowed. If ya think it fun anyway.

Like firearms, it is the stupidity of the users, not the objects, that caused this tragedy. Roman candles under the door? Good Lord, even in my extremes of early 20's stupidity, I would never have dreamed of doing that.

Here in Ft. Worth, Texas, a newspaper article calmly stated "There were 7 unrelated fatalities over the fourth of July weekend in the area lakes."

Seven unfortunate victims of water accidents. Zero fatalities associated with pyrotechnics. Where are the screams to ban water sports, boating, and swimming? The silence is deafening.

Hey guy's just got back from my pyro weekend. (Put some vids up on Youtube). And I'm planning my 14/07 copositions and all. I want to make a wheel I have all of the tutorials I need from passfire, but there is one that I think has been deleated from the database but the photo is still there.

Could anyone help me find out what it is?

BTW: It was called: 1/2" KNO3 silver Dirver

Thank's a lot!

I almost always spend my 4th Holiday on a Lake in Northern Michigan...and that is not a good time to be on the water. It is a bad combination of highly inexperienced boaters, too much booze, and overcrowding of the lake. By some miracle, there were no boating accidents this year on our lake. There have been in the past.

What kills is that those kids were so young but they're release date, correct me if wrong, is July 17, 18, and 19 of 2008. It happened July 7, 2008. You gotta be kidding, 10 to 12 days in jail for man slaughter. WOW.

They KILLED one of their best friends dude. The whole experience will haunt them for the rest of their lives. I don't see how sending them to prison would accomplish anything.

Not a cross I'd wanna bear. Yes, it seems incongruous. Yes it was stupid. But intent and such was not there. Given foresight, do you think they'd have went ahead?

Small solace for the family, but vengeance is the Lord's province. Or, so I was taught.

Good point Frank. But I just thought the law was the law. Either way it sucks.

How much mercury is in a sphygmomanometer? I may have a opportunity to buy one for $20

It depends. The most recent ones I've seen just have a bubble of mercury, maybe a mL. I've seen big ones have up to probably 100-150g of it.

Just bought 4 lbs of NaNO3 for $6.50. Saw it there in the hardware store so naturally I had the compulsion to purchase anything that said "Nitrate" on it!

Did I just waste my $6.50, or is it possible to make non-soggy stars with this stuff?

It certainly has it's uses... You can make some ridiculously bright flares with Mg / MgAl + NaNO3. Best to bind with a non-water binder, maybe even resin.

Also useful for production of nitric acid with the proper equipment to distill.

I bind a lot of things with NC laquer, so maybe I will try to use that for any NaNO3 stars that I make. I could use the HNO3 to make Barium Nitrate, but then I would need to buy the distilling equipment for the HNO3 in the first place.

That reminds me...I guess I could make BaSO4 from H2SO4 and Barium Carbonate, right? I'm always looking for more green star alternatives since Barium Nitrate and HNO3 are both things I would probably tend to hurt myself with...

Barium sulfate is easy enough to get, FF and SL should both have it. It's not terribly useful as a colorant, though. There's no really good sub for the more potent barium oxidizers. Although, I think there are some good green strobe rocket formulas that use BaSO4

Yeah, I know I can buy it, but that's yet another order and I'm trying to cut back on my spending. I am starting to do some experiments with barium carbonate greens, but so far they are pretty washed out...more like greenish white. I figured BaSO4 would be worth a try as well, but I didn't intend to put in another skylighter or firefox order.
