_DB_
So I'm basically completely out of the pyro game nowadays. This is my first visit here in months. I don't know what happened but I just kept doing less and less of it. I developed a really busy social life and just haven't had time for pyrotechnics. I'm moving into my dorm at college on August 23 and definitely won't have time then. It's sad that I've completely forgotten a hobby I used to be so devoted to. I may return one day, but who knows. I'm thinking that I may pick it up again later in life when I have a stable career and am in need of a weekend hobby.
FrKoNaLeaSh1010
I am the same way. I havn't touched anything except for a couple small salutes or smoke bombs in the past two years. Hopefully later in life once i have a stable career i will be able to revisit the hobby more.
flying fish
Getting back into the hobby is simple! Just whip up a batch of your favorite star composition, and then the answer of what to do with them will just pop into your head. That's what I always do to start off a new summer of pyrotechnic experiments. I don't do much pyro stuff during the winter, due to the fact that my workspace is in the garage (it would be cold), and also because of static dangers during the dryer half of the year. tentacles
Well I got my metal aspirator and it looks nice but it has a 3/8" NPT male water inlet. A garden hose uses a 3/4" male fitting. I went to my hardware store and I picked up a 3/4" to 1/2" reducer and a 1/2" to 3/8" bushing I hooked them up sealing all the connections except the hose with Teflon tape. All the connections are perfect and water tight except when I went to attach the 3/4" fitting to the hose I could only screw it in 1mm or so and when I went to turn it on the aspirator worked but the hose to reducer connection shot water everywhere. It would appear as if the hose threads are to far apart while the reducer ones are rather close together. What can I do please help me!!!!Seeing that noone has helped you out, crazy... Hose fittings are 3/4" but it's a slightly different thread to national pipe thread... Usually they sell fittings that are specifically to go from hose thread to pipe thread. I'd suggest one of those or if your hose connector comes off (perhaps held on with a hose clamp like so many) then just get a hose barb to 3/8" fitting. Alternatively find a garden hose in the garbage and use a bit of the end to fashion an adaptor with a hose barb. Yet another option would be to buy a replacement hose fitting, and a 3/8" pipe fitting that will fit inside/outside the hose fitting, solder together. There are so many ways to approach this, but this could be the cheapest if you have solder on hand and no spare junk garden hoses.
AprenticeChemist
This whole thing was supposed to be posted earlier but my damn internet fucked up so. it in regards to the guy that just visited after long while out. Theres a saying, I don't remember it right now but something along the lines of smelling the smoke and never being able to fully leave the hobby. I started 6 years ago and was VERY devoted into if for a year and then got out of it for six months then got back into it pretty big for junior and senior year because my chem teacher knew I was a genuis with this shit so he'd let me teach classes and do ANY demos I wanted. Then after that its been just here and there where ive got out the old chest of chemicals and done some pyro. Sadly my dumb ass step dad had tried to dispose of my chemicals himself and lost most of my chemicals the good ones so I don't have much to work with. That shit pissed me off he dumped out a little vial I had full of Hg and all of my HNO3, my ethanol and some other shit. So basically he threw out all my hopes of making MF since I have plenty of Hg from the 30odd thermometers I have but no way to get HNO3 any more. Sorry got sidetracked the point is no matter what happens how busy you get and how long you get it it calls to you, its like a herpes it may go away for a little while but eventually it will come back to you. The only difference is you get pyro from books and chemicals, and you get herpes from harlots. If you notice most of the guys that really are into pyro that quit end up coming back and stopping by a couple times. Hell if any of you remember him from TOTSE Rat Bastard stopped by there the other day with a link and saying KrimzonPyro still up. So no one ever fully gets out.d
FrKoNaLeaSh1010
I seen that post from Rat the other day. Its rare to see many of the people still here from back in the day before the apc forum was even created. Has anyone heard from EP or mr yuk anytime relatively recently? For those who dont know it was pretty much mumbles mr. yuk and EP who created the forum. I cant believe its been like 7 years since i first started looking stuff up on totse and then apc once it was made.
ULTRABUF
Dang I forgot about mr yuk and EP. I started browsing apc like 4 or 5 years ago I think, I dont remember mr yuk posting very often but EP was still pretty active. BTW nice to see you're still around DB, that sucks you wont be doing any pyro.

Mumbles
I have e-mail contact with Mr. Yuk from time to time. EP though, I haven't seen in a long while. I have his personal e-mail address, perhaps I should drop him a line sometime.
asilentbob
AC, I'm doin pretty good. You should stop by the totsebb IRC room sometime and chat with some of us. irc.slashnet.org #totsebb. The sensitivity varies and can be somewhat un-predictable. I have seen videos of people hitting small piles with hammers with decent force and getting nothing... And seeing someone barely tapping a pile setting it off. Plus BudgetPyro getting messed up just de-clumping it with a playing card. In a thread in totsebb a while back where everyone was discussing experiences with it one of the more troll like vets made the comment, "Damn, nearly everyone here who has messed with AP has gotten fucked up by it." (more or less) Though yes I agree its general sensitivity is sometimes exaggerated. Been busy with school, work, and other things... Might get to make some terephthalic acid from PET using the college lab. If so I'll strive to try and use KOH to minimize sodium impurities. Then I can make potassium (hydrogen) terephthalate, copper (hydrogen) terephthalate, etc... Terephthalic acid is similar to benzoic acid.
psyco_1322
^From the sounds of that Im guessing it was Ozzy...and Im also guessing Im right:) Ill have to see if I can get in the IRC room sometime.
asilentbob
No, it wasn't ozzy. It was chainhit. He rarely posts, and is somewhat like a cross between a troll and vineman... But I respect him as he does know alot more than he lets on... Plus hes taking Fire Fighting training classes... Looks like I have found someone that I can probably carpool with! Thanks to psyco_1322! Now I'm trying to find some one in TX not far from me thats taking a portable magazine up there to see if I can get them to haul stars, inserts, and/or raw materials and hemis and tape. I've really got into filming this past year so that's my main hobby now. I would post some of my vids but it would give away my identity. Last summer I made a brief appearance on the ABC show I-Caught. It was a segment about "crazy teenagers" making homemade stunt videos. I don't take part in it, but I know a lot of guys that do so that's how I got on.

AprenticeChemist
Yea ill definatly try to get on that. How do I do it? I went to that irc.slashnet.org or what ever but it said could not display it. Speaking of old great pyros anyone ever heard from Andyboy since he left after that whole incident? I was thinking about his old website with all his bad ass videos like that one what was it a 7kg I belive maybe more of like ANFO. He had some bad ass videos. I wish he hadn't taken his site down id love to watch them again. Anyone heard from him or got any of his old videos? Anyone here remember when vineman "Pwned" apc and got his dumb ass banned? That was the stupidest shit in the world he fucked up the board and then didn't think he would get banned.
FrKoNaLeaSh1010
I remember when vineman did that. He spammed the old board and it resulted in the entire newbie section getting deleted and started over. I never liked him ever since back in the totse days before this forum was even started. That asshole also stole my old aim account because the email it was linked to wasn't active so he made that email and clicked forgot password and they sent him my password. Mumbles
Yes, I still hear from andyboy from time to time. Well I talk to Rooster fairly frequently, and he talks to Andyboy somewhat frequently, so I kind of get the update via Rooster. Andyboy currently has two kids, but said he might get back into pyro a bit at some point. He stopped by not too long ago IIRC.
RUUUUUN
I remember TheAlmightyVineman's pathetic little stunt, I also remember Yuk, EP, and Nesler(sp?).... Wow, I've lurked a long time here...... How is Andyboy these days? I was aware that he had at least one child and was taking a sabbatical from pyro as a result of it/them, however that was probably 2 years ago. One of his latest excuses was MEKP effecting reproductive functions IIRC, Apperently it had no negative effects. How is rooster, he hasn't been on here for a long time as well. AprenticeChemist
So andys got two kids now? That was part of why he left before because he was expecting his first little one. Tell him I said congratulations and hope to see him back in pyro. That man was definatly one of my favorite legend pyros. His videos where absolutly the coolest shit. Hows rooster? Wasn't he talking about the military or something like that when he left?

I dont think you have to have a magizine to transport do you? I know the transport is covered by the PGI's license but from what Ive read I didnt think you had to transport in an approved magizine. You obivously dont need one for hemis/tape/chems, if anything it will just be finished devices. Anyone with more info on this please chime in. Swede
THE FUTURE OF FLAKE AL... There seems to be continued pressure on sellers of dark flake Al. eBay aluminum, unless it is labeled Eckart 5413 or 10890, I think is suspect, and a bit hit or miss. Unfortunately, there are a lot of kewls out there, and possibly they outnumber serious hobbyists who are after more than a salute. I worry about the availability of good Al to hobbyists. I noticed on the Skylighter website that they limit people without licenses to 2 lb year max. Has that limit always been there, or is it new? We know what happened to Firefox. There is a need for Al equivalent to Eckart 5413 beyond salutes. I am tempted to create a bit of a cache. Has anyone ordered "German Dark" from Thunder Valley, and if so, is it a good, pyro grade of flake Al?
jacob
Swede, (and everyone else) If you're looking for quality, fine Al powder you should be a member of Passfire, every once in a while a guy there makes bulk orders of Eckart 5413 and 10890, he sells it in 100lb drums only, but usuallyanother member or two will buy drums, and sell most of it off at very reasonable prices. Now if you're wanting to resell to Joe public please do be careful, those Aluminums really only have one main use
mormanman
What happened to Dan William's home page? I have it bookmarked and tried to bring it up. Then while on google, (yes I used google) it said something about farewell to Dan William's. Did he pass away or what? He had some good toturals. Hell, you have to be trying pretty hard to use over 2 lbs. of Dark aluminum in a year... All large salutes (bottom shots, etc.) can use a lower quality aluminum... In smaller amounts, in firecrackers, crossettes, and small salute headers, 1 lb. will probably last multiple years. Dan Williams old pages went to the land of the lost. They were "remodeled" and are now on Fogoforum.us though.
