Mephistos Minion
You can get pro barrels from: http://www.shell-lap.com.au/cgi-bin/search...mbling+Machines I am not sure if any of them will suit you.
Mumbles
I would be worried about using pool balls for milling BP. They are strong, but they do chip. I have been trying to find a cheap set on ebay actually. I want to use them to crush lump charcoal and perhaps prilled KNO3. I would just use a 25L container and toss it on my ball mill for a few hours. I think they should be fine cascading over each other. If they were used in something with lift bars I may be a little worried.
BigBang
I have had pool balls chip on me and mess with my already crappy game. I wouldn't use them because it could muck-up your bp. Some hardwood balls were an ok idea. I think that ass the mill starts getting so massive, it because less efficient. You will most likely have problems using something that size. Get a big motor and use lead. Very impractical but will end up working better in the end...
justanotherpyro
http://www.unitednuclear.com/laser.htm About a million and one uses.
Mumbles
You can get the same lasers for about 1/4 the price at least. I've seen them before at least. Anyway, if you want to mill a kilo, you will need about 1 gallon in volume. 6" x 9" is about the right size. It is a similar size to those 15 lb mills. 150mm is just about 6", so that size would be good.
evilgecko
I can buy 150mm pipe, but the end caps are a problem. If I had a lathe making them outta wood would be easy. Ok no pool balls then. What about hand-made ceramic sorta balls? Some kind of clay that sets rock solid and doesn't crack.
Frozentech
I can buy 150mm pipe, but the end caps are a problem. If I had a lathe making them outta wood would be easy. Ok no pool balls then. What about hand-made ceramic sorta balls? Some kind of clay that sets rock solid and doesn't crack. The ceramic media that is sometimes used in milling ( and not recommended by most for use with BP due to those annoying explosions ) is high alumina ceramic, made with molten ingredients. It sounds like what you describe is pottery, it would chip worse than the pool balls. Is there a reason you don't want to use lead or brass ? Swany
I bought a USSR military helmet, surplus from the cold war. I should've spent the money on something useful. Oh well, its pretty cool and it stops BB's (don't ask). In other news, I don't really know. I got home from my weekend endeavors a bit ago, and I think thats 'bout it. EDIT: OK, some news. Why the hell is roguesci down? I have a bad feeling.
evilgecko
Enough lead balls to half fill a 25L container would be so heavy I think it would even bend the two 5/8 inch steel rod supporting it. Not to metion expensive.
_Po_
My mill is 6" PVC pipe with end caps. It's...a number of inches long. Something like 20" long. It only took about 28kg of lead to half fill. My lead was free...So was the pipe...And I borrowed a sinker mold...But those end caps sure are expensive! It can mill 1kg of BP easy, I think it could do two, but I've only ever milled one kilogram at a time, and only ever made 2kg of BP. I haven't used my mill or roller for ages...20 odd kg of stars and 2kg of black powder seem to be lasting me a while - especially since I haven't been using them at all. BigBang
roguescience isn't down for me. Do you really need that much bp? I use maybe a hundred grams a week if that. Just out of curiosity....what are the specs of your motor?
Mumbles
You'd be suprised how much BP I can go through during a project week. I mill up 600-800g of BP, and that is rarely enough. 300-400g of rough powder for lift and granular for BP burst. 300g of BP on rice hulls for burst(~500mL volume), then priming of stars, and fuses and such. Spolettes if I need them. That will make about 1 4" and 3 3" spherical shells, and 2 or so 3" canisters. That doesn't take into account any rockets or drivers or anything else I may make. BigBang
Made a crappy, ghetto star pump.Made a sta out of bp to get the size and density (just making sure it would compact) and it worked nicely. Funny, if you light it, the bp chunk shoots off in a blaze of glory. And yes, much bp can be used onthe average week. But 25L would make one massive pile of bp. I think he could get away with a single kilo at a time
dragonman586
Your star pump can't be as ghetto as my 1/2" pump. It is a chap-stick tube with a pice of 7/16" dowell. Top that
justanotherpyro
I m having a hard time getting the end caps for my 6" pipe. Home Depot has 4" rubber caps, and Lowes had shit. Very frustrating because like mumbles said, its easy to burn through black powder. No pun intended.
evilgecko
I make about 500grams at a time now in my coffee grinder, and is is not enough. As mumbles said a few 3 inch shells, some rockets and mine and such down the track and you're left with an empty BP container. I want to do at least 2kg at a time, and a 100mm diameter container just don't cut it. I have what I think is a 1/3 or 1/2 horsepower AC motor from a washing machine which spins at 1400rpm. al93535
Ha! I used 512 grams of BP to coat 128 grams of rice puffs! I used all of that except about 50 grams for burst in one six inch shell!!! I am trying to mill BP everynight so I can have a good amount ready for when I need it.
_Po_
Wooooooo, 1kg BP burning video!!! If you can't watch it, wait a while. Geoshitties. Self explanatory - and I only capitalised it because it was at the beginning of the sentence, otherwise it'd have the fucking lower case it deserves! I accidentally used wet charcoal for that batch and it put the ratio way off so I made a nice pile on the road and lit it.
keepkool79
Hello all, I was wondering if anyone has talked to the good people at pyroaluminum.com. I was going to place an order from them a few weeks ago. He said he would send me an invoice and never got back to me. I have tried to contact him via e-mail several times with no luck. With all the CPSC shit going on I get worried. Has anyone talked to these guys lately? If not, does anyone know where to get a deal on al powder 5-10lbs? Also, I have seen on ebay that a guy is selling 100 mesh al powder. It is from e-z net, has anyone delt with this guy before? If so, how was it? I am going to a shoot and want to stock up.Thanks,
Mephistos Minion
Lol, keepkool, the first time I read the end of that sentance I though you wanted to shoot up. In other news I'm taking the plunge and spending $150 on a new ball mill barrel. After I post of some stuff that is.
Star_Roller
Seems that you guys need to make a huge batch and always be making more I (when I have the supplies) will make a bucket full of nicely milled BP and do with it as I please when I need it but I do use a lot of BP.
BigBang
I have my mini mill running everyday so I can have a nice supply. I only make it in 200 gram batches so it is necessary. I really haven't used that much as I said. I've been focusing on a lot of comps that don't use bp. Heh, dragonmann, chapstick and a rod. I would say that does take the cake
PyroJoe
Many of you may remember Pyrotek or N.E. Lab supply... well the owner is now in prison! For selling ILLEGAL chemicals such as FUELS and OXIDIZERS ( hmmm, I didn't know fuels and oxidizers were illegal ) Although they did not state if he was actually selling complete devices it sounds to me like some morons hurt themselves with his chemicals and he is now in jail for it. He should have stopped selling chemicals the first time they charged him, but hey, we all know what happens when you smell the smoke... Guest pyrokid00000
Where is the best place to get kraft paper? I know you can order it off the net but its real expensive. I went to kmart, walmart, and the local craft store and i still cant find it. I dont really care if its recycled cuz im broke. Could it be under a different name or maybe in a certain section of the store?
aquaman
I would think that it would be at an arts and crafts store. Micheals around my house sells rolls of kraft paper (for packaging I think). If none of the art or even maybe packaging stores have the paper you're looking for I think the internet is your best bet. I myself don't use kraft paper that much. I usually use some manilla folders or some cheap colored paper (computer paper?) snd it works fine for my uses.
