I'm also planning on doing some electroplating in the near future.

I just finished stripping the grip frame of an old paintball gun I have, and sanded it to 1500 grit Wow my arm in numb... haha

 

 

I once saw a video about constructing Smiley shells that Disney uses in their displayed... I believe the stars were just hot glued in, and saw dust was used to position the shell correctly in the air, though I have heard about adding a rope for drag before.

Not strictly pyro related... but...

 

I just passed my technician class amateur radio operator (HAM) exam. It was pretty easy. Now I can get a decent entry level mobile 2m transceiver to keep in my car or on desk for emergency and general communication. When all power goes out, HAMs are still talking. Hopefully I can get a radio before PGI and break it in on the trip there and back.

 

Need steel for mill/roller stat.

Haha thats the coolest shit ever. I just realized you can read why you got a warning if you get one. Dude thats the funniest shit ever. Its not my fault god made me a dumb ass, and I didn't ask about blowing up the garbage cans I asked about blowing something that size up haha. Its all good though you just did your job, I mean how you supposed to know that I actually used to be a contributing member and experinced pyro/explosives person back in the day when now all I do is pop in and see how everyones doing like a jack ass.

 

Just a question though did your warning thing like cause a prevention in me posting in other parts of the forum? Because for some reason I have made a few posts in some of the other threads but they didn't show up. It could just be a computer error but just checking.

I have a question, and I know I have been this before but I'm not sure if I still am. I'm not going to point fingers but I was kicked of HE for being immature, stupid and irresponsible. I would love to be HE qualified again.

Unfortunately more often than not the two are combined. Granted it wasn't anything terrible asking about what we usually refer to as "kewl" things however we do get threads of the like which are serious and agreeable with sidewinders note that we don't need any unnecessary heat from something stupid. How are we necessarily supposed to know its a joke? A joke is a joke only if its funny to both people, this was just irritating at best.

But you people act like they are going to do something about a random post. If you havent checked there is a lot more crap out there they would probably rather mess with, like things that get posted on youtube. Well you see back a while ago it wasn't so bad when id come back and pull a joke like that because plenty of people would realize it was a joke and the people that didn't just made the joke funny. It was more of a prank then a joke, same thing just theres those that find it funny(those that know whats going on) and those that don't find it funny and take it serious(the guys that don't know whats going on)

 

Sidewinder is right though they are after pyros. They are after ANYONE that they can bust, because it will make them look better. It doesn't matter if your just a harmless pyrotechnician unless you have the sweet little liscence then your a bastard ass terrorist that knows things you shouldn't and should be in jail for it. Technically yes they are after the guys blowing shit up and causing a ruckus but if they can take down someone just making fireworks and make it seem worse then they will do it. The general public will take their side since they are ignorant on our hobby.

 

 

And mormanman I don't know of your posts or anything so I can't give you specifics but I can give you a few vague pointers to help you seem like less of a dumbass. Firstly like you said learn your shit before you ask a question, the whole "if you need to ask you don't belong in HEs" is bullshit. Because theres always doubts until you have done it so don't be afraid to ask, but try to find the answers as best you can and then if you are unsure ask. Never do stupid shit with explosives or pyro, like using it to try to impress people or just blow up other peoples shit, or doing it somewhere that someone might find out or get hurt, also don't do shit that could be EXTRA dangerous. Make only REASONALBE ammounts of Primarys if you do make them, in my opinion some of the better pyros have done stupid shit i've known people that have done over 100gram synths of AP which in my opinion is stupid ammount to make at one time. Pretty much just use common sense and don't be a dumb ass.

Ya I kinda hate it when others will yell at the noobs telling them that they shouldnt be doing something if they need to ask about it. Really they arent doing it yet, they are thinking and asking to make sure that there noobishness doesnt cause them to something wrong. Tell then to go read? They are asking the freaking question! They are wanting someone to tell them the answer they need to know. Its a damn discussion board people are going to ask noob questions that may have been answered several times. "Phone" I believe? I'm not sure if your active on RogueSci or not... But a complete "kewl" kid managed to make almost 2 lbs. of TATP with a completely horrid method, and live long enough to kill himself with the charge.

 

I think TATP should be looked down on completely though... It's too easy to make for how unstable it is... I wish I had powers to alter the laws of chemistry and remove explosive peroxides haha.

 

 

Pyro is almost completely harmless if you follow all of the safety precautions... Really, if you took care to follow every safety precaution there was, the worst that could happen to you would be a CATO, Flowerpot, or Low Break... If you bury\reinforce your mortars, store you chemicals\compositions correctly, and only made stable compositions what could go wrong?

Random addition: Some comps call for "wood meal flour" or "sawdust meal" or similar... I found a material that might be useful to Pyros. It's called Pecan Shell Flour, and it is exactly what it says it is, a brown, ultra-fine powder made from pecan shells.

 

I've used it in the past with urethane casting resins to give a brown wood look to the product. I tried a simple green mix of pecan flour with potassium perchlorate, and it burned with a very interesting pink hue. It might be a good addition to rose or red comps. I'm going to try carbonizing (turn to charcoal) a small batch... might make a killer, specialized BP.

 

It can be bought for less than $1 per pound, and it is bulky stuff... you get a lot.

Why would I want to remove that part? To me its true, there is no reason to be making such large batchs. Like I said ive talked to plenty of people that have done it and not just once or twice. So I know its possible to do it without killing yourself. But personally I think that it is just dumb to have so much AP in one place. Granted there are some people that have created extremly large dets that required a huge blasting cap but there are safer alternatives then using a fuck ton of AP.

 

I don't remember who it was but a few years back a guy on BB had a small 10 gram pile of AP that was drying and to break up the clumps he was tapping it with a playing card. The ap decided it didn't like that and nearly took off his hand, he made a recover but hes hand was pretty bad.

 

I mean yes the sensitivity of it is greatly exagerated but it is very dangerous and not something to fuck with.

I'm trying to make some TATP only for a binary impact target. Just to get practice for one of my buddy that has a 50 cal rifle and they go out and shoot 50 gal propane tanks. Dangerous I know.

Well morman you should stop right now. DO NOT MAKE TATP! Its got to be dumbest thing anyone could every do. I had an unsettling realization with it, and found it to be far too big of a risk. The reason these noobs make it is because its so damn easy, you could synth it with your eyes shut.

 

If you want to make some exploding targets for your buddies to blast with a 50BMG than there are way simpler mixes that are not even capable of harming you while making them. Primaries are not for targets! Im not sure how hard a 50BMG hits but Im sure its hard enough to set off some secondaries. Every hear of Tannerite? Well dont buy it, its a waste of money. Get yourself a pound of Al powder, as long as its fine, could be bright or dark, dark being better, or you could use magnalium if you wanna waste it if you have it, or Mg but that would be a total waste. Get some Ammoniuim Nitrate, you can use ice packs if you can get it in bulk. If you have some ammonium perchlorate and want to waste it(or stick your buds with a bill:D) mix it 50/50 with the nitrate, if not disregard that. Add about 10% sensitizer (metal powder) to the NH3NO3 and pack it nice and tight into a container and seal it up. Dont forget that the NH3NO3 is majorly hygroscopic and it needs to be made up and sealed up right after you dry it out. Yes dry it, in the oven for a bit to evap the water, its setting beside a water pack, it will absorb some. Place out there to be shot and shoot it. Some Ti could add some sparks. Then make sure you get a video so you can post it.

CuO\Al and some things based upon ammonium nitrate that can be found in the binary impact target thread

 

Note that the NH4NO3 needs ground up, dried, ground up, then dried again... Even if the ground pellets seem dry... They are not.

NH4NO3 is very hygroscopic and will bond with water until the moisture is "driven off"... Keep under 169°C though.... Normally 250°F or so is good.

 

A glass\ceramic casserole dish\dutch over\crucible would work best for dehydrating the NH4NO3, since the dry crust will be very easy to scape off, and free of contamination.

 

God forbid the NH4NO3 melts and reacts with a copper pan to form NOx and gas you... Possibly do this outside, though if your oven is controllable, it should be fine inside.
