I'm pretty sure they're are already 6X burners out there... They're like $350 though... owie

The disk are what normally limit the burning from what I remember... Something like $10 for a 2X 25GB, while a 4X is like $30.... It seems that they cost $5 more per double in write speed... With $10 as the 1X base

Note that 1X in Blu-Ray is really 36 Mbit/s, which is like 3.4X on a DVD drive... So really 2X is about 6.8X... A 4X about 13.7X (144 Mbit/s)... Relatively, Blu-Ray isn't that slow... But when your burning 25GB, it makes a big difference.

BD-RE = Rewritable

BD-R = Write once

TDK is working on an 8-layer (200GB) single-side Blu-Ray disk..

Do you mean RE-recordable? (Like DVD+RW?)

Otherwise they're the same: plain Recordable = Write once. ;)

Heh... ok, that's better.

Will be interesting to see what gets released in time for the Christmas shopping season around here. Seems manufacturers fall all over themselves to get their latest and best out the door in time to be stuffed under a Christmas Tree or down a stocking. ;)

MOD EDIT AGAIN: Sorry, the title said it all and it was lost in the Merge: SHIMIZU

His book is probably the best thing I've ever read! so indepth and intuitive and indecently perfect like mary fucking poppins!

I just printed out his whole book and BINDED IT... BY FUCKING HAND!!

what a lost art eh?

pictures are coming when I find my camera, I'm having to make several volumes of it as it an exceedingly large tome of KNOWLEDGE!

:D

the whole reason i did this is because im going to new orleans for the 4th (so no fireworks  ) and needed something to read. just downloaded it so I figured...why the hell not!

anyways it looks pretty nice except i have neither a punchpress nor a paper cleaver thingamajig (well holy shit THAT was in firefox dictionary!!!) so the pages are not cut perfectly (kitchen knife) and the stiching on the spine is sparse but exceedingly strong as I used upholstry thread... the covers are from my old notebook when I started pyro/chem (omg I read it for the first time in MONTHS it was SO KEWLISH! I KNEW NOTHING!!) and are covered in several layers of craft paper for stiffness with a spindle of craft paper down the arch in the spine between the stichings and the paper so it will lay flat easily.

I used a combination of Elmers and hot glue throughout production, elmers being used on the layering of the cover, and hot glue being used in the spine.

I started with sections 3 and 4 as I REALLY wanted to read those first

I plan on coating the exterior in hexanitrate NC just for kicks :D

the whole project took about three hours including printing

MOD EDIT: Merged this into the Random Thread where it belonged.

Argh, we have lost the context of this post. What book are you referring to? I am a sucker for printed knowledge.

The title said it all and it was lost in the Merge, my fault. I edited the post again. It was:

SHIMIZU

And I have a followup question.

Is that material still under copyright?

Ah, I see.

In that case, Flamigape, I'd be more careful with respect to openly blabbing in a public forum about your piracy, hmmm?

I wasn't 100% sure who held the copyright between Dr Shimizu, or the publishing company. The publisher is from the US, and Shimizu from Japan. They both have differing copyright laws as far as I can tell. Life + 25 years is more or less the universal standard. Dr. Shimizu is still alive the last time I heard.

I bought a copy of Shimzu. I figure the guy deserves my money for making such an important book! It's pretty dry but so full of knowledge. I wish he had spiced it up with what must be hundreds of personal anecdotes about his time in the industry. He's got to have stories to tell, both entertaining, and about safety.

So my video card died this morning.. 5 of the capacitors burst. :/ It's under warranty from eVGA but frankly it'd be faster and easier, not to mention cheaper, to just fix it myself. Maybe I will.

Too bad the newegg 1 year warranty is expired (bought it in oct 06) or I'd be upgrading the card again. Oh well! Can't milk a warranty forever I guess.. This card was a replacement for another card that died under my tender 24/7.

If this is about "Fireworks: The Art, Science & Technique" I just bought a brand new 4th edition hardcover copy from http://www.powells.com/. It cost me $65.00 and should have it Monday. Way better deal then a copywrite infringement problem! I spent more time searching and less time glueing someone elses material.

That's funny Mark, I paid 65 for mine to, a good price IMO.

I think you'll like it, there's alot of uncommon info, I'm especially interested in the three-way rocket pressing sleeve he mentions, does anyone have more on it? or know of someone haveing made one?

So I come to you guys for help.

I need some KNO3. I need Champion or something of higher quality specifically. And I need it as cheap as possible. I usually order from the clay art center, but shipping is just too much to bare (I am in Florida and they are on the other side of the country.) Oh, and I need between 100 and 300 pounds, depending on if the motor catos (6" by 6' rCandy.)

IIRC, qwezxc12, you use this brand, but order from some store in the middle of no where near where you live. You wouldn't by any chance know of a larger provider or how to order straight from Champion would you?

If anyone has a good lead please PM me or post here (or both.)

Regards

Most places will only sell to you if you buy in a 1-ton quantity... But I know a few places that will sell a pallet, which I think is 8 bags of 50 pounds each (Champion). I have no idea why you would need anything of higher quality than about 99%... Seems stupid to me.

You could just order a drum from China

On that note today we had two major acomplishments today!! First off is I cracked all my BP covered lead balls and put them in the mill for bout an hour and got some damn fine BP (not to say I have tested it yet tho besides a simple g on the ground) so thats good..now just hope it works for lift. My next acomplishment is constructing first firework see below!!

What you are looking at here is a HIGH QUALITY :P MINE (FLYING FUSE) nice and easy FUN!! I have to think of how I can capture vidoes of my bangers!!! O well Ill figuer something out wait I just looked at my digital camera and it has movie function!!!! NICE that will be good enough!! I'll make sure to post em as soon as I start blastin my first timers!!!! I wander if we will have failur .....or SUCCESS!!! :D Next week we should have launch on a 3"shell!!!!

On the other note I just received an order today and it contained some 3" shells I ordered paper and thing is they only measure up to 2 ¾ so I wander if the paper compensates for that, and also half the shell halves have TWO holes in them about the size of a time fuse? any thought

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h73/breimer06/DSC00273.jpg

I guess it's just a backup, if I didnt want to use it I could just cover it up with kraft right!

I would think the holes are vents for when putting the shells together... but they are rather large... anyway, the size difference from 3 inches allows for quick match and extra pasting when putting the shells together, plus you don't want it too tight in the tube...

Bigbang, I have enough KNO3 to part with that kind of quantity, just no idea on how to get it to you. It's also prilled. Not being from florida, I don't know of any sellers in the area.

Ok, no one vents shells. It is not done. The walls are solid and the same thickness all the way around. They are also not vented during assembly. Paper certainly doesn't form an air tight seal. Any air that may be pushed out during compression of the burst or whatever does so through the gap in the hemis.

Those holes are for time fuse. I see you got them from pyrodirect. While it's not normally done with shells as small as 3", it is common practice to double fuse large shells, 6-8" and beyond just as an insurance policy. If one doesn't light, the other will. I have heard people voice concern over it weakening the structural integrity of the shell. The shell would be weakest between the two time fuse holes, which is also the area where the greatest deal of pressure from the lift is located. I have never heard of any shells flower potting because they used 2 fuses though.

Well we had lift off of my flying fuse mine!!! and it was a complete failure!!! by the way I used 1.7 grams of BP with about 25 pieces of flyin fuse in a bundle. so here's the video....think i needed more BP
