They have different compressive properties, surface areas, etc, but yes. I use BP/crispies myself. You have to be careful since when dry they are hard and not very compressible where as BP/hulls is still quite compressible. Meaning if you overfill a shell with BP/hulls, no problem, you can still close the shell up, with BP/crispies you might have to start over and not fill so much...

I've been using about 4:1 BP/crispies or however much it takes to form a satisfactory layer for me. I generally make big batches.

Buy the cheap crispies that are in the bag, not the bag inside the box.

Did find some generic crispies (Albertson's) but they're still a bag in a box. They cost only half as much as the kellog's.

Gonna go gaga here and ask a stupid question: we're not talking about puffed rice are we?

(Have heard of people using that, too).

Thanx, btw, for your advice,

Puffed rice and rice crispies are different. I personally use puffed rice. I don't know myratio of BP:puffed rice though. Last time I made it I used about a kilo of dry powder and maybe came out with 300g left over of the BP that sticks to the sides of the container in the process of making the filler. I just add untill I get a suitable coat like asilentbob.

Any fellow /b/ tards here? :)

I don't know what that means.

Guys I have a funny story about when I went camping over spring break.

My friend drove his car with me up to Oklahoma. His car was/is a 1995 Thunder Bird with a 4.6liter engine. I convinced him to go do "Dukes of Hazard" moves in his car . He ended up tearing off the front and rear body kit bumper things and cracked his radiator.

Funniest thing I've ever seen. So now his car is stuck in Ardmore, Oklahoma. LOL

Random, but, has anyone ever thought of making a mine using tiny, maybe 1 inch aerial shells as a replacement for stars? I'm making some small 3 inch shell of shells, and I thought that this idea might work. However, before I scatter several $ of my valuable supplies, any reason not to do this? I don't want to blind-fire 6-8 1 inches... what a waist...

Not bad at all tentacles. Just think of how much copper benzoate you could make with that. However if I ever needed something than big I'd just pick up a glass carboy for $30 (thank god for home brewing). There are rubber stoppers you can add to covert normal flasks into filter flasks. Something would easily be able to be made for a carboy as well.

As far as the insert shells in mines. Absolutely they will work. My favorite mine effect is a bunch of charcoal or long hanging glitter stars with some blue, red or purple inserts breaking over the top. There are a few videos on passfire that are really nice. However with no stars I don't think they'd look much different than a SoS with a shitty break.

hey guys, the other day i noticed that one of our hot tub chems contained %100 pure sodium carbonate and i was wondering if i would be able to make yellow stars out of it or not. i've tried serching for it but nothing came up.

also if i can use the sodium carb could i mix copper oxide with it to make green stars, insted of using barium nirate?

Well first of all it will never be 100% Sodium carbonate maybe 99,9999% but that's not important :D. Any way, I don't think you will be able to make green stars that way, but I am not sure, check the Veline system. Hehe I see you also read the contents of your bath/shower stuff :D , I reacently discovered that, my face wash had dextrin, wonder if it would stick stars together :D

Negative on the mixing sodium and copper. Sodium is WAY too strong, and would very easily wash out the color. Lets put it this way, I've seen lime stars being produced by adding less than 1% sodium bicarbonate to a very nice green star. Barium nitrate fueled, so it is very heavily colored. Copper based blues do not have the same advantage of getting to use the colorant as the oxidizer. If you want to try, start with around 1/10th of 1% and go from there. Probably wont take much more than that. Green stars can be produced from barium carbonate as well, though not quite as vibrant, it is still usable.

Yes, you can probably use sodium carbonate to make yellow stars. Sodium bicarbonate will also work, which is baking soda.
