Grrrr, how do you get that annoying bar of ads and stuff on the left side of the page on rec. pyro to go away, it's driving me crazy.

Use a real newsreader.

could you elaborate?.

There are a number of newsreader programs for reading NNTP protocol newsgroups. In windows I just use the news function of Thunderbird. There are no ads in usenet at all, what you are seeing is added by the site you use to read them.

You can google "windows newsreader software" and find a bunch of programs for reading newsgroups.

I have a question about ratios and I don't think that researching will help b/c I did look and I got two different answers.

So my question is which of the two ratios is correct :

Black powder (maybe be #1)

Kno3 75

C 15

S 10

Black powder (maybe #2)

Kno3 75

C 10

S 15

B/c I have made some pine charcoal bp with the #2 ratio that I listed and it already works better than the newspaper bp (but the newspaper bp has only been milling for about 6-9 hours). On thegreenman.me.uk says that #1 that I had listed is correct and a video on youtube agrees but asilentbob (when ever I first was getting started) said #2.

Can someone help me I'm rather confused?

Gee... not knowing the formula for BP is a serious issue in pyro. (You can look it up, but still)

#1 is correct

Wow. I never would of thought. Well thanks.

Has anyone else made Go-Getters? I used 9/16" x 1.5" x 1/16"wall tubes last time for my 4" can shell. They were 3" long tubes cut in half. I want to roll some thinner wall tubes myself, rather than using commercial spiral wound tubes (easier & cheaper).

Question is, I do not know how thin the wall can be and still function as a mini rocket, and not burn through and act like a serpent. Has anyone rolled their own Go-Getter tubes? How thick do they need to be?

If I don't get any definitive answers, I suppose I'll try 4-5 wraps of 70# and glue.

Thx.

I made some for the 4th a while back, the same kind you made with the AP and metal carbonates, the tubes i used where 1/16 wall like yours and i didn't see any signs of burn-through, the things burn so fast that 1/16 should be fine, and you might want to know that my -325 mesh flake al worked just the same as my indian blackhead. oh and thanks for the help Frozentech.

The first of the cool pgi videos is here. I love rockets so much and this is PGI rockets at its best.

Just designed some labels yesterday on my computer, including a sheet of hazard labels and got my dad to print them at work on sticker paper.

I then search www.kiros.dk for MSDS

If anyone's interested I can send you the hazard labels as a file or design you some labels (yes, free).

Hey pudi, i'd be interested in some sort of label for labeling fireworks. something like

Name:

General description (effect)

NEC (Neto explosive content)

And general disclaimer in red colour and framed.

Please let me know if it's do-able.

Cheers

Those are cool looking. Too bad I've basically quit pyro. -_-

My only attempt at go-getters failed miserably due to moisture in the acetone/xylene mix used to wet the comp.

1/16" is ~9 turns of 70lb kraft. My intuition tells me that about 5 would probably work. I'm not actually sure how go getters work. They either need the confinement from the casing, or you just need to make sure they burn from one end. A few testers may be in order to see, just light them on the ground or a small mine or something. You could probably fire them like comets from a stargun.

Speaking of go-getters, did anyone see the go-getters in the opening show at the PGI? They had a thick silver tail, and seemed to kind of slowly crawl around the sky, not the darting that normal go-getters give. I wonder if these were end burning serpents or something.

Sounds good.

Prior to firing the 4" can, I lit a train of left-over go-getters on the ground, hot-glued to a board. The AP / Al fueled versions are energetic and *very* hot. I think if the tube wall was too thin and burnt through, you would lose the directed thrust. I'll go with 5-9 turns of recycled craft and PVA and see how they turn out.

I will be trying some with fine Ti and firefly Al for tails this time. If I get brave, I'll make some 3"-4" mines with them, too.

Any videos of the PGI ones?

Confinement is not needed for most go-getters. Because they tend to burn hot, you will need to use thick tubing.

I found that you need to strongly cap on end of the tube on go-getters. I've tried just friction fitting the caps, but every time the comp slug was ripped out of the tube, instead of flying like it should.

there must be another way because i bought roman candlles with lots of little go-getters how would that be done?

BTW: mumbles check your PM's!!!

Never heard of go-getter candles, and surely you would need a much larger safety area so as not to be chased down by the things... And what would stop the go-getters turning flying around randomly and hitting the ground/spectators?

Are you sure they weren't flying fish?

- First try at granulating BP -

Only had 1 gram of milled BP to work with, and wetted it with straight water. Of course being my first time.....I wetted it to much. Also found out that this stuff sticks to everything!

Anyhow, I put the over wetted BP in front of the fan to try and dry. Wasn't happening. Probably the N. Carolina weather being 90° with 90% humidity!!!

Scooped all the BP out of container, and made a blob of it on the few sheets of paper I had, and left it alone. I never used the strainer to make granuales. Instead used a plastic knife to chop it into this....

Since I'm labeling my chemicals, I came across nitrocellulose laquer. Which hazards should I label it with? Any other than "very flammable" or "irritant"?

And what consistency should nitrocellulose have? I dissolved some nitrocellulose cotton in actone, but without measurements, so the "x grams in x millilitres" don't help me much now...

All right, another NC pyro, what part are you in?

Is anyone having trouble accessing rec.pyrotechnics? The last post I saw was:

"Sporge flooding of rec.pyrotechnics will commence in a few hours.

This will render rec.pyrotechnics useless." supernews@rec.pyrotechnics

Now when I try to loggin I get: rec.pyrotechnics

This group has no topics. Click here to post the first message!
