Douchermann Posted May 13, 2006 Posted May 13, 2006 Our school is the same way with the chemistry/biology thing. I cut a deal with them and said I'd take them both the same year. I took chemistry last semester, and am currently taking biology. The chemistry class wasn't very interesting, but I did indeed learn a bit about quantum physics (the electrons and atoms and whatnot). We did one lab on placing copper wire in a solution of silver nitrate. Everyone knows what that does, so I tried to change the directions a little bit. Copper wire was replaced with source of acetylene, and "place" was replaced with "bubble" so it came out as "Bubble acetylene into the silver nitrate solution". Of course this change didn't fly with her so we still had to do that boring lab.
iv81 Posted May 13, 2006 Posted May 13, 2006 If you go to the sheep farm, they'll treat you like one. No doubt! If you want to be a lone wolf at your own pace, take matters into your own hands (and by "matters" I mean literaly) Do your own experimentations tho in a safe environment and take propper precautions. I read this story once where this kid who's been practicing chem since he was a kid using one of the (now) banned books. Then later on he became interested in developing concentrated atomic matter and finaly did. Since he still was a youth they didn't charge him but confescated all his stuff, later he joined the US navy. I can link you up with the story if anyone wants to read up on it.
Swany Posted May 13, 2006 Posted May 13, 2006 Yeah, the radioactive boyscout. I don't know if he could be called kewl or not. If the (insert gov't agency here) bashed down my door, I can imagine the media would have their way with me, and I would be elevated to senior Al'Quida (I think thats how you spell it) status, with explosives with an obvious hate for society. Obviously planning revenge on his school, duh.
Douchermann Posted May 13, 2006 Posted May 13, 2006 I never keep explosives once I've made them. The most I'd be charged with is an attempt to make crystal meth and other drugs. Mainly because I have a bottle of powdered asprin sitting among my chemicals. The oil stains would now become attempts to culture bacteria, and the picture of the ferrari enzo on my wall would be my 'target'. That is, if the media was to write a story on me.

Yeah that kid was pretty inventive. Incidentally when he joined the Navy he wanted to get into the Nuclear Power program, but was not allowed to, for a couple reasons. He couldn't get a security clearance due to his 'criminal' record, and he already exceed the lifetime allowable dose for radiation exposure.

Well, atleast he set some record or another.
Zeppelin Posted May 14, 2006 Posted May 14, 2006 Yeah, I read that story a while ago. It is quite interesting.Radioactive Boyscout
pa_pyro Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 I think my school is deliberately trying to discourage me, I asked to take Chem, my Science teacher said no, so I talked to me "counsuller" about it and he said, no you Can't take chem. because B comes before C so you take BIOLOGY before CHEM. No kidding that is the reason they gave me, because B comes before C in the alphabet. Now I am stuck in this lame Bio. class with a teacher that is certified to teach mental patients, and she teaches all of us like we are mental patients, if I was tired in the morning I would sleep in that class! She is so bad, we are in Honors Bio. (for the "smart" kids, you know the ones that actually USE THEIR BRAINS!) and we are BEHIND (yes BEHIND, in the text book) all of the other REGULAR Bio. classes!!!! But I outsmarted the system, go home get a chem book and learn on yer own! Read every single thing you can get your hands on, and then ask questions like crazy and hope ya don't get yelled at. Isn't it easier to remember Litmus paper? instead of "those little pink\blue strips" Boy my teacher in chem next year is prolly not going to let me Look at the lab.. Hey, Teacher lets mix... NO, BAD STUDENT, DOWN BOY!!! If you ahven't read any books so far, I would just pick up a Level 1 Chem. book, start at page one and just read it through. It will teach you about Atomic structure, valence electrons, and how that effects a substances reactivity. I know what you mean. I put down chem for 1 of my courses for my freshman year(this year) but 1 of the prerequisites is biology.(most of the stuff I do at home is probably more than I would learn at school . Guess im going to self learn everything.) We did one lab on placing copper wire in a solution of silver nitrate. Everyone knows what that does, so I tried to change the directions a little bit. Copper wire was replaced with source of acetylene, and "place" was replaced with "bubble" so it came out as "Bubble acetylene into the silver nitrate solution".
