whitewolf_573 Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Could be possible to use in Europe.(in Spain ), a Ball mill bought in USA ?( Here we use 220 V). I think in USA it is used 115V , but i dont know really. Perhaps it could be used some tipe of transformer to have 220v (if is not used in USA ) I interested in have a new ball mill , and i thinking ing buy one of 3-5 lb or a bit more perhaps. I am searching pyro supliers or another supliers that could have ball mills , and could send to Spain. I have find some supliers , but i dont know yet if send ball mills to Spain . Perhaps i can do one, that is another option , and as i have done one before is easier.
Richtee Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 You'd need a step down transformer. Prolly quite available there. At the wattage or higher of the mill- no doubt very low.
psyco_1322 Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 You'd be better off finding a motor there in Spain and building you one. Then you could customize it to your specifications. Id sugggest make a bigger mill than 3lbs. <You can only do about 300g of bp in it. It may seem like a lot now but it will soon become to little. A 6" shell uses up 300g of bp for the burst along.
Sylar Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Or you could just buy a European mill or a usa mill with a motor capable of handling 220V @ 50 Hz. You need more then a transformer by the way. The frequency is 20% higher in the usa. So the rpm of your milling jar will be lower than the designed rpm. I'm sure a euro can supply you with a ballmill, or can assist you to make one. I dismantled my old one, otherwise you could have that one for the price of the motor + shipping costs.
whitewolf_573 Posted July 8, 2008 Author Posted July 8, 2008 I think i will first see to make one because my ball mill, has broken.I only have maken a few 2" shells, so i will not need a lot of be bp. As i started to do pyro in 2006, I preffer to make only 2-3 shells and stars for it , to learn the basics of pyro than make more shells for a show , so perhaps it will be good use a jar of only a few lbs and then move to bigger jars. I could see if i can control the rpm of the motor with a electronic device , so i can turn it faster or slower , so if i need a bigger jar i have only to regulate the speed. I just Have seen a post of Swede in a topic about ball mills where he says : One day I am going to build a big one ,and one of the goals will be variable speed. That can be done with a DC motor and a speed controller. So thats a good option to not have problems in the future, or if you want to make faster in speed your mill in some moments ( but i don't know why you would like to make it faster or slowler, also of a cause of the jar volume) I will read forum , buy "ball milling theory and practice for the Amateur Pyrotechnician" and investigate to see what do . Thanks for your help
