moonshot Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Where: St. Helens Oregon USA.http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m314/di...lens2008003.jpgWhat: The annual 4th of July fireworks shoot. I got lucky and was invited to help set up this shoot by my good buddy Theo who is on the fireworks committee.http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m314/di...lens2008005.jpgIt all started at 7:00 AM with a boat ride over to the island where the display was being set up.http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m314/di...lens2008002.jpgFortunately all the tubes were set up by a crew the day before. http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m314/di...lens2008021.jpghttp://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m314/di...lens2008020.jpghttp://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m314/di...lens2008046.jpghttp://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m314/di...lens2008007.jpgAs soon as we got there the rest of the crew took off for breakfast and left Theo and I to guard the fireworks.http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m314/di...lens2008006.jpgO.K here I am posing with the big tubes for the finally. http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m314/di...lens2008011.jpgThe show was set up in 3 phases by the head pyrotech according to how many and what size of shell was loaded into which tubes.http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m314/di...lens2008013.jpghttp://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m314/di...lens2008012.jpghttp://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m314/di...lens2008014.jpgTechnically each shell is numbered and goes into a corresponding tube in each phase. After the crew got back we started numbering and fusing shells.http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m314/di...lens2008035.jpghttp://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m314/di...lens2008032.jpghttp://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m314/di...lens2008019.jpghttp://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m314/di...lens2008033.jpgAfter all the shells are numbered you can start loading the tubes.(YEAH!)http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m314/di...lens2008024.jpghttp://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m314/di...lens2008023.jpghttp://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m314/di...lens2008043.jpghttp://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m314/di...lens2008041.jpghttp://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m314/di...lens2008045.jpghttp://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m314/di...lens2008025.jpgThe show also included a number of 2.5" and 3" cakes and some 3" and 6" mines. http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m314/di...lens2008039.jpgThe highlight of the show was 3 10" and a 12" shell.http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m314/di...lens2008050.jpghere they are setting the big tubes.http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m314/di...lens2008031.jpgThe whole set up looked like this.http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m314/di...lens2008056.jpgNeedless to say these shows take a whole lot of work. 16 people worked 2 15hr days to set this up and it took another long day to clean it all up.The show was hand fired by myself and 8 other fanatical pyros and it was the best night of my life this year. I have some vids of the 10 and 12" shells going off and will try to post those later. I learned a bundle doing this shoot because the head pyro knew what he was doing every step of the way and was willing to share his knowledge and help all us amateuers. If you ever get the chance to do a larger shoot do not pass it up!
nath0r Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Looks like you had a good day with all that pyro Would like to see the vids of the 10's and 12" when you have the chance.
