So the little magalum I DID salvage

Crushed with linesman's pliers in a Dixie cup to keep it in one place. Man is this stuff fragile! Got about 12 grams...

Anyway... might as well us it in stars for a glitter. Anyone suggest a base comp? Perc or nitrate... extra metal for heat?

Think you got the wrong forum...

Hmmm Well, it's the comp forum right? I guess I couls jusr sub it in for about any metal flake, but alot of these guys <girls? who knows?> have more insight than I. I want to know what's the best base to use this stuff with. If it's the wrong area, would a mod PLEASE move it?

On Edit: Oh hell. OK..my bad... Mods PLEASE move this thread...

thanking ye kindly

I think I need to increase the text size of the forums so I can read the fine print below the titles...heh. Old eyes ain't what they used to be for sure.

Allright... I was hoping for a little help, but I hadda go and try something. Since I figured it was only going to be a "bright spot" in the stars, I used a low charcoal black powder pressed into cakes with about 10% by weight of the chips. Works pretty well. Boring orange with bright spots.

But I can't help thinking SOMEONE has better advice?

You could try the EC silver glitter. Not terribly impressive, but a nice effect, though short lived. I'm not even sure what mesh range we're talking here?

Basically just meal + metal.

Are you by chance a passfire member? You could search there for formulas..

There's a neat comp called "Flaming Shit on You" or "Fireflies on Cocaine" that Skylighter published in one of their newsletters awhile back. If the magnalium is too coarse, the "flaming shit" falls on you. :)

Fireflies on Cocaine (or Flaming Shit Falls on You)

Potassium Nitrate 46

Pine Charcoal 44

Sulphur 6

Magnalium, 30 mesh 10

Barium Carbonate 6

Starpol 4.5

"I like to take the pine charcoal as it comes out of the yard grinder, and put it in the ball mill for 10 minutes. Sift out (remove) what doesn't fall through a window screen, and just use the mixed granulation of the charcoal--Better charcoal effect. I mostly roll mine with starpol as a binder, but I have made the formula into comets, firework stars, and even tried it in lances. Pump, cut or rolled firework stars, worked good for me, but never use starpol as the binder if it is to be the outside of a color change firework star, as it will surely cause a moisture problem." -Bill

Here's a video of a rocket using the comp as a delay, and a 3" ball shell header with stars of the same comp.

Heh..I like that effect! My mesh size is prolly in the 20-30 range, so it should work as the FF on C and not the FSFOY! Thanks Frank- I may try the magalum thing again when I come across solid mag, as I posted the chips work for crap as far as melting.

Richtee, Passfire is absolutely the best money you can spend on Pyrotechnics. Worth considerably more than the "entry fee", in my opinion.
