juanvaldez Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 Hi All I work in a pulp and paper mill. We make aspen, maple, birch and various mixed softwood pulps. These are chemically bleached and fairly pure and clean sources of cellulose fiber. Would this work to make fast BP. I read the post about aspen being good. Cheers
qwezxc12 Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 Give it a shot. I and others have used newspaper as a charcoal source for BP with good results even though common wisdom says that it is full of non-contributing fillers and clay. I would think that any of those pulp types would be an excellent charcoal source. People have made fast BP from other cellulose sources like cotton balls and cotton dryer lint. If you were of a mind, I'd love a sample (150g or so) to test.
TheSidewinder Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 As I said in the other thread, I wonder if the bleaching would make it be worthwhile. BUT... given you've got a free source, go for it and try. Report the results, if you would? M
justanotherpyro Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 The pine wood that I make my C with is bleached and it works just fine.
mormanman Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 Newspaper is paper and I think its been bleached so it should work.
Richtee Posted April 2, 2008 Posted April 2, 2008 OK well I don't know if this is the right place, but It's as close as I can find. Made some charcoal out of some packing paper probably thin craft pretty much. Best BP I have managed while awating my ball mill. Stinks like hell- but it's strong enough to launch a 40g 2" Italian <Maltese> around 250' 70 15 10. 15 grams.
