InRainbows Posted March 9, 2008 Posted March 9, 2008 Since I actually don't have a ball mill, I started testing what made greenmix faster. I first tried pulverone. I wet a batch of greenmix, added 5% dextrin and pressed it through a screen, about 1mm squares. This performed poorly, and the rockets stayed put until about the end, when they cato'ed, falling around 10 feet away. I then tried taking the pulverone, re wetting it, pressing it in an oral dosage syringe, and re corning it. Results were exponentially greater than greenmix and normal pulverone. I then wondered if I could skip corning it in the beginning, so I made another batch of greenmix, added water and 5% dextrin, pressed it via syringe, and corned. I then put 1 gram of the original "re-re-pulverone" and 1 gram of the imitation in 1/4 ID 2" tubes, rammed, plugged on both ends with paper plugs, fused through middle. I taped both tubes on separate ends of a BBQ skewer. The original pulverone made a pop sound, and flew with the skewer and other tube about 7 feet away from where lit. The pulverone that I corned once showed a spark tail about 2-3 feet long, and dragged itself about 5 feet away. So, greenmix corned, dried, remixed, pressed then finally corned again pretty much detonates in a tube, and greenmix pressed, and corned could make rocket propellant. Hope someone can benefit from this. Also, the second tube, with the imitation, had a load 1 gram less to drag, since the original tube was then empty. asilentbob Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 While tests are nice and all... everyone does things slightly different. Wet to you and wet to me are 2 very different things... and this definatly effects the BP in a major way, much like the difference between yellow pine and willow. There are so many variables out there that what you need to aim for is consistency within your batches when you find something that works for you personally. IE. All airfloat before hand, pressed to such and such density with x ml or grams of water present, broken up how long after?, dried at what temp and humidity in standing or moving air?, etc. Keep as many of your variables as controls as you can, then vary just one or 2 things and see what effect it has. Its much like finding the optimums for science experiments.
