Mumbles Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Federal licenses require you to be a citizen yes. Well at least not an illegal immigrant, so greencard/Visa/passport would probably be okay. No felonies or drug convictions. There is probably more, just look in the orange book or at the applications. I know for a fact that several people have come from overseas, and enjoy the same rights at PGI conventions that US citizens do. Well, I know canadians at least that were allowed to compete and manufacture and purchase things and all of that. People from other countries have attended though.
dagabu Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Canadian? Gahh! Whats next, elect a democrat president?
patience Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 I crossed over to the Dark Side and turned 40 this past year. Jimmy Buffet's "A Pirate Looks at Forty" takes on a whole new meaning.
jwitt Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 I'm the last of my close circle to turn 30...still young and 29 for a few more months though! I guess I was about 12 when I shot marbles form an old .50cal casing my dad had in a box of goodies from his all-expenses trip to SE Asia in the 60's. Shortly thereafter, he found a pile of bullets I'd pulled for my stash of smokeless powder, and was a bit angry that I'd wasted ammo. Duly noted, he admitted that he blew himself up a few times as a youth with wooden thread spools. I guess it breeds true.
Cookieman Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 Wow!! I can't believe how many young guys on this forum.Looks like 17-21 are clearly the majority. I feel so frigg'n old.I was 14 when me and my dad used to buy fireworks at the local convenience store and those checkered black and yellow firecrackers when they were legal, and at a time when people weren't doing stupid things with them. I slowly notice our freedoms starting to diminish over the years. I'm 47 this April.
dagabu Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 I was told yesterday by a family friend that I am now officially a "Creeper". I guess 44 crosses a line somewhere.
Peret Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 59, glad I'm not the only old fart here. 'Scuse me a moment - Hey! You kids, get off my lawn! It's about 46 years since I picked up a book in the city library and my chin hit the floor in disbelief - they tell you how to make these things?
Bearark Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 I'm 27, but feel more like 57. I'm already in the "get off my lawn stage" of life and grumbling about the darn kids these days. Lol I can't imagine how I'll be when I actually turn 57.
roddenberry Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 (edited) Hi! First post here. I'm in the 45/50 range. Just slowly getting into this fascinating hobby, more into the rocketry part of it than the fireworks, but i've always been fascinated by chemistry and do a bit of electroplating and precious metal reclaiming on the side. With old age comes wisdom they say (and a bit of paranoia) so I'm always very careful when handling chems and take the utmost precautions with corrosive, oxidizing or flammable stuff. bikemaster Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 Did you really come from Montréal??? The world is too small!
Algenco Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 Well, my daughter says I'm "3 days older than dirt", by I"m actually 56
handymanherb Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 (edited) 53 in May. I'm fairly sure there's a wide range of users here. I'll be curious to see how close to "Oldest" I am. You lose to me 56 in Sept, ok wait I didn't see the date posted but it still looks like I have you by a year. And ain't it great to be told by youngter's I might not be mature enough to see all the forum Edited July 22, 2010 by handymanherb
WSM Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 53 in May. I'm fairly sure there's a wide range of users here. I'll be curious to see how close to "Oldest" I am. You can breathe easy, buddy; I'm 57 since January.
Peret Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 You can breathe easy, buddy; I'm 57 since January.I think it's between me and pyro55 - he said he was 58 on Sept 2nd 09, I was also 58 on that date. I will be 60 later this year.
Algenco Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 nice to know there are at least a couple older than me
TheSidewinder Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 Wish I were still 53. As of May this year, it was the magic 55. But... I see I'm not the oldest. Good, lol.
nickle Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 I think that I may be the oldest here. I am 66 at the moment will be 67 in Dec.
Arthur Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 (edited) Does the age spread indicate the ages that people do pyro, or the ages that people do computers. From limited UK experience the real life pyro fraternity is older than the online fraternity. IMO the older ones don't spend computer time! Edited August 29, 2010 by Arthur
TheEskimo Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 Well, I assume that the older folks aren't as computer literate. I know quite a few people in the 50+ range that have no clue what to do with a computer.Or else it's a matter of the poll itself. I don't think the vote chart changes to take into account for birthdays. This is a fairly old poll. It's also a matter of a lot of young, inexperienced people joining this site, and then falling out of the hobby for some reason or another. As for real-life experiences, I imagine that a lot of younger people don't have (or spend money on different stuff) the money/transportation to go places. I would love to join a club, buy more chems, do more stuff, but with my part-time job, and paying for lots of social activities due to being in highschool, I find my cashflow to be moving fairly quickly.
Mumbles Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 This forum would not be considered to be a very good demographic of the legitimate amateur pyro community. Going to a PGI or regional club event would give a better idea. If the median age at any of these events is under 45, I would be VERY surprised. We do our best to keep this forum as mature and respectable as possible. Even so, a lot of the older community may not want to deal with a bunch of "kids." The feeling and vibe here is much different than a place like Passfire. Some of the stuff that gets posted here would not fly there. I don't worry about it too much, just chalk it up to serving different parts of the community, and I think it works. They want us to stay off their lawn, and we don't like the smell of mothballs and bengay
