Perchlorate stars based on charcoal

Hi

I have got 1500g KClO4 here for making pyrostuff,

but using it for flashpowder is some kind of boring.

Another problem is that I haven´t got any PVC, BaNO3 or SrCO3 at the moment,

just a bit charcoal, sulfur, KNO3 and other chemicals.

So I was wondering wether I can make good stars out of charcoal powder, potassiumperchlorate and dextrine or a yellow colouring agent like baking soda.

I also have some german dark here.

Did somebody here try a star composition out of these chemicals?

Thanks,

well seeing as you have charcoal kno3 and sulfur you can make charcoal streamers such as

tigertail

C6

C8

chrysanthemum of mystery and whatnot.

i belive

Potassium perchlorate...40

dark aluminum.............40

dextrin........................10

would make a brilliant white star i have never tried (i dont want to waste my precious dark al) but seeing as you dont have much else you could give it a go.

Hi

It may sound odd, but I only have 25g sulfur left ^_^

I will try the

40 KClO4

40 German dark

10 Dextrin

star-formula.

But I think it will result in a flash

Anyway, thanks for the advice,

Well obviously it needs to be bound into stars loose it will probably be a slow-ish flash.

Stinger, let me ask you.

Are you the same person as "polumna", only with a new username?

You could make flash and use it as a core for some charcoal stars. You could make sulfur-less charcoal stars, it works with bp and will most certainly work with stars. You could make some glitters, D1 possibly using the dark Al, Ive done it. Get some calcium carboante and make some orange stars. You need to go find a formula list and look around.

Hi :)

I tested the star composition that has been posted here:

40% KClO4

40% Al

10% Dextrin

Made a 40g batch, the stars were cutted.

They are rock hard in 24 hours, and they burn low and with a silver flame.

I made a test video here:

These stars defenately need a primer, like blackpowder, otherwise they wont light.

I am making a 2" shell at the moment, so videos will follow soon.

These stars are wonderfull ;)
