oskarchem Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 Ok, great if it worked for you, but wouldn't the wax; just stick to the sanding bit?
KinneticEnergy Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 IF your dremel is on full speed, little bits will collect on it, but just clean it ever 2/3 mins or so... But if it's on low it wont work well...
KinneticEnergy Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 If it's still sticking, put it in the freezer for 5 or 10 mins...
Miech Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 For a smoke device I would suggest to melt it all together. I prefer to use the following formula: 50 Potassium Nitrate50 Sugar33 Paraffin Note that there is paraffin used, not just wax or stearin. This formula produces a (relatively) huge cloud of white stinky smoke, and almost no flames. I usually melt it, and poor it into a paint can. Then, while still hot, I make a couple of cores in it by pushing a pencil in the composition. After letting it coll down completely, I fill the cores with some meal powder, and put a fuse in it. If one makes a smoke device exactly like this, there shouldn't be any problems with irregular burn speed, flames etc. For crushing wax I would use the freezing method. Cooling to -24 centigrades makes any sort of wax rock hard and easy to crumble. The only problem is keeping it that cold, since it has a low heat capacitance. I've never tried though.
h0lx Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 or use my method, just toss it in the blender with the KNO3 or sugar, it will nicely coat the particles. I always do that with my kitty litter.
Boomer Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 You put kitty litter in a blender with KNO3 / sugar? On a side note, anybody know what binder is in hexamine camp fuel tabs? I remember when purifying it, the stuff that did not dissolve in hot water would actually give a powder. Don't ask me if the water temp was above or below the binder's mp. You might get an MSDS to find out what it is, maybe a stearate? Oh, and *if* you blend kitty litter with something, make it negative-X. Then put it in places you want your cat *not* to piss again!
oskarchem Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 It is not a binder, it is just plain wax that is over the hexamine tablets
Bonny Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 It is not a binder, it is just plain wax that is over the hexamine tablets I ground up some hexamine in a blender and it powdered pretty well. Should I dissolve in hot water to seperate the wax? Or is it usable enough as is?
oskarchem Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 Nah, I strongly recommend to dissolve, and recristalise.
Bonny Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 Nah, I strongly recommend to dissolve, and recristalise. dissolve in what, water? alcohol? Then filter and recrystallize...
oskarchem Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 Yes, in water, sorry I forgot to say. So chop the tablets into little peices, then dissolve in water filter, and recristalise
