hondo Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 seems pasting shells is the major problem with aerial shells and so far this is the best way I have found. I buy the rolls of crep paper streamers, 500 foot rolls. I start by putting down aluminum foil on the table 3 feet long and tape each end, then get a small 2 inch wide mini paint roller, mix up wood glue 50/50 with water. saturate your roller with glue and roll glue down on the foil first then a strip of crep paper, roll it down with the mini roller then more glue on top of the first layer then another layer of crep paper , one on top or each other, I have found that 8 layers works good so when you pick up the length of crep paper it holds together with out tearing. now paste your shell, I can do a 3 inch shell in 1 minute, only takes 2 layers, 4 inch shells take 6 layers, they need to dry for about a week see the pic of the finished 4 inch shell, I hope you understand my directions
Mumbles Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 You, know, there are such things and re-existing threads. You also may want to try them out against properly pasted shells with kraft paper. I dont think this will work nearly as well. It has very little strength. I don't think 16 and 48 respective layers of poor strength paper will cut it. It only takes 5 and 7 layers respectively for good paper, and it's dry in no more than 2 days.
hondo Posted November 16, 2007 Author Posted November 16, 2007 I have tried both and they work just as well and I didnt see a preexisting thread or I would have posted there,, ps just another way to do things and give others an alternative to try, let every one be the judge, I will be shooting some off next week and I will video some and post so the forum can judge but my friends like them
deadman Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 Crepe paper is extremely weak. It would seam to me that you would be mainly putting a very thin layer of glue all around the shell, of course with some color added. Crepe paper stretches. You want to confine it with something that is going to "crack" open. I think your process for applying the glue is not a bad idea, but you are going to get better results from a strong craft paper rather than crepe paper.
