ST1DinOH Posted October 13, 2007 Posted October 13, 2007 no clue where to start here. i'd like to get into building before i start spending on tooling, ball mills, and chems. i'm already building shells using stars reclimated from 1.4 shells and i'm not too happy with the results as far as the performance goes. 1.75 stars don't look quite as impressive when there's 3 times the lift under them. anyone have any suggestions on where to pick up stars within reasonable distance of NW ohio or any place that can ship stars to me legaly here in the buckeye state, or michigan. thanks in advance.
crazyboy25 Posted October 13, 2007 Posted October 13, 2007 correct me if im wrong but i think you need an explosives license to buy bulk stars. i realize you are new to shell building and have only had practice with commercial fireworks but understand it will be difficult to obtain any sort of bulk quantity of stars or explosive material without a BATFE license which i will bet my life you don't have. also this web site as well as the internet has a wealth of information about BUILDING IT YOURSELF. look through the compositions section you can make many stars here and on the web with little to no experience and less than 50 dollars worth of chemicals. whew im done ranting.
Mumbles Posted October 13, 2007 Posted October 13, 2007 He's right. If you had an ATF licence, theres a place that sells stars no more than 2 or 3 hours from you in Michigan. They advertise in the back of the PGI bulletin. Clayton, MI IIRC. They are much more rewarding to form yourself though. I suggest at least giving them a try before resorting to purchasing stars premade, which is sort of cheating if you ask me. If you're taking the time to build the shell, you might as well make the stars yourself too,
ITCHI Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 Making cut stars with the three basic BP chemicals is one of the easier things to do and yes, very rewarding when they actually work well.
ST1DinOH Posted October 16, 2007 Author Posted October 16, 2007 thanks for the inspiration guys... i'll give making my own a second thought
