Gottagotomoz Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 Well, I don't know about you guys, but personally I hate making quickmatch. Sure, it's easy to make blackmatch. That's not the problem. The problem is developing a quick, easy, and effecient way to roll the tubes for the confinement. Today, I thought up some ideas, and I tried them out. They work just as well, if not better than rolling up a standard tube and sticking in a peice of blackmatch. And yes, I do realize some of you have access to commercial quickmatch. This is for those of you that don't, or if you're just having trouble thinking up a way. I hope this helps, and that this tutorial will help assisting you in making quickmatch. I'm unaware if this is a common way of making quickmatch, but I didn't know about it. Now, enough with the talk. Lets start! Method 1: What you will need: Quality masking tape, Kraft paper (Standard computer paper works just as well), Some scissors, and of course, blackmatch.. http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=vnz7gj&s=2 Start by taking a desired length of paper. I used Kraft in this example. Make a fold about one cm up. http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=3142mpi&s=2 Continue folding over and over until you reach the end of the paper. http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=2ztdrmv&s=2 Rip or cut a strip of tape matching the length of the paper, and place it over the final fold. (Note: Yes, I realize my peice of tape is too short in the picture.) http://i22.tinypic.com/23jhfeb.jpg Now, this can be used as is. Just pop in your blackmatch, and there you go. You have flat quick match. If a 'tube' is desired, read on. To make a tube, simply pinch the tube opposite the folds, making a squarish shaped tube. http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=4j1btg&s=2 Run your fingers down the fold, making the whole peice an actual tube. http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=293etqo&s=2 Run a peice of blackmatch down the tube, and voila! http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=hs15r6&s=2 Method 2: This will be flat quickmatch. I like this method, mainly because of its simplicity, and how effecient it is to make. Materials Needed : Blackmatch, Scissors, Masking tape. http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=wgoidd&s=2 Cut or rip a desired length of masking tape. Then rip another strip matching the exact length of the previous one. http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=2j4osck&s=2 Simply place the peices of tape on top of each other, making both sticky sides touching. http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=2hycmr9&s=2 Lay your peice of blackmatch on top of the strip of tape. http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=9bakjd&s=2 Next, place another strip of tape on top of the blackmatch. http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=k0llxf&s=2 Finish by tearing off the peice of masking tape, and sealing the quickmatch shut. http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=2d9o01t&s=2 You may wish to cut off the excess tape sides. Both work fine. http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=wgw5qx&s=2 Now you have two simple ways of making quickmatch. I hope this helped you out. There are many variaties of quickmatch, and yet I have found these 2 methods being some of the most simple. 1
Berksglh Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 I've been using what I believe is called '3M Self Adhesive Masking Paper'. A few bucks a roll, 2" wide? and only a third of it is adhesive. I cut a length maybe 20" long, lay it flat, sticky side up. Only about 1/3 of one side is sticky. Fold the non sticky side up, so the edge just overlaps the beginning of the sticky part. Then fold what remains in half, onto the remaining sticky part so the edges meet. Then I poke the end of it open with a pen, and insert my black match down the length of the flat tube you just made. It’s not round, but burns quite fast. The only issue I have so far is it appears to be wax coated, so I can’t hot glue it to anything. It is super quick to make it if you don't need long pieces.
