invisibleworld Posted October 9, 2007 Posted October 9, 2007 Skylighter and Firefox sell smoke kits that require the purchaser to add Potassium Chlorate as the oxidizer after they receive it. The mix calls out for the addition 27% KClO3. I have no idea what the pre KClO3 mix consists of. My question, if anyone might know is, should I be overly concerned about the storage of the mix and any components made from it. I have several tubs of different colors and they are stored in an unheated non moisture controlled building. I life in the NorthWest USA where it is begining the "monsoon" season (winter). Does dampness effect many KClO3 mixtures like some of the hydroscopic ones do, say with sulfur. I know you must watch out for some nitrate mixtures and it is always recommended to "keep your powders dry" just thought I would throw this out there for comment. Better safe then sorry. Thanks
Pretty green flame Posted October 9, 2007 Posted October 9, 2007 I'd guess that the other components are Lactose and a smoke Dye (Green, Red etc...). I think that if you keep these in an air tight container you'll be fine as i don't recall any negative properites for those two chems.
