hashashan Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 Hi, Guys what priming composition you use for chlorate stars?
DeAdFX Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 In my experince chlorate stars don't need priming. What compisition are you using that would require a prime? Perhaps just a mix of chlorate, charcoal, organic material, bulls eye shellac might be sufficent?
qwezxc12 Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 Duplicate post...there's already a thread on this: Priming Chlorate Stars Using the search engine would have turned it up.
Bonny Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 You could try this one: Priming composition #6Source: PML, post by J. Humby <jhumby@iee.orgComments: This prime is safe to use with chlorate stars and gives a much better color than a black powder prime. The difference is most noticable on red stars which tend to a dark salmon color when primed with black powder.Preparation: Dissolve the potassium nitrate in hot water and mix with the charcoal. Potassium chlorate................................52Potassium nitrate.................................8Charcoal..........................................30Lampblack.........................................10Binder............................................+5% I use charcoal (40 parts) as I have no lampblack and simply screen all ingredients together. Apparently lampblack should be avoided with chlorates anyway is it may contain sulfur, sulfates etc...
