Big Ass Rocket

I'm thinking there should be a different colored name tag for everyones associations. So there might be a blue nametag for APC members with their screen name on it, a yellow tag for HPA members with their name on it, an orange tag for Passfire members with their name on it and so on and so forth. A lot of us would have several name tags but we could pick eachother out of a crowd easily. Maybe a nametag table of something.

I don't think they're ready to recognise APC as a legit pyro organization. Perhaps I should file articles of incorporations, and go and win the Club trophy. Put the WPAG in their place. :)

Perhaps at the PGI or something we could all get together. Assuming it isn't in Wyoming. I don't plan to make it to wyoming.

From what I hear Gilette is up in the air on account of the exploding costs. I love WY but that's a haul and it's clear we aren't welcome there.

Or perhaps, all too welcome, and they are probably under the impression that it's too late for the plans to change- as it would be for some types of conventions. So they want to try and milk us for all we've got. Pricing conventions out of town is never a smart idea. Especially when it brings such great entertainment as PGI does.

What are you talking about? We arent welcome there? Not sure about that first sentance either. Id put us 2nd from the top with Passfire being atop, or atleast from the forums ive seen. We are just a younger group I think.

Well its in WY next year, I plan on going as its a bit closer than ND, that was a long ass drive but im not complaining about it.

And passfire members already have there own tags, Passfire asks if you are a PGI or other club members when you sign up, the tags are nice and noticable. About twice as big as your ID tag!

He's right; the PGI is currently evaluating other venues for the '08 convention due to exorbitant hotel rates causing undue hardship for the membership. Bill Bahr and John Steinberg are traveling the country this month in search of a replacement site. Join the PGI listserv if you'd like to stay abreast of current events.

I was told the hotel rates are actually higher for the PGI week than any other week of the year which is why I speculated we may not be welcome there. I was not insinuating that APC members would not be welcome at the convention. As pyro forums go this one is pretty credible and I think it's starting to get noticed more by the community. Anyone here going to the tri-state this weekend? Or should I say the MFF?

I wish I could make it. I just can't get away much right now due to midterms and what not. Besides, it's also Oktoberfest, and there is a keg of beer sitting in the kitchen on ice that isn't going to drink itself.

If you for some god forsaken reason find yourself in Wisconsin saturday Mr. Rizzo, there is some delicious beer waiting for you. C'mon, it's only like an 11 hour drive.

when you say delicious beer, what type of beer are you talking?

IMO, if it's not Guinness it's not delicious. :D

Capital Brewery Oktoberfest. I think there may be a guiness or three to be found in the house though. There is much delicious beer to come from WI by the way.

You may even catch me in the middle of drinking a handle of whiskey in 36 hours. So, if I die, Rooster is in charge.

mmm...whiskey

EDIT:

also just to stay on topic the rockets contained in this thread are an epic win.

i never thought i'd see an 8 inch ball shell atop a rocket and not have it look awkward or disproportionate.

it was like 2 midgets standing next to a 1.4 ball rocket :D

also, excelent choice on the topper, nice color change, i'd love to see a big kamuro atop one of thoes bad boys...i think an 8 inch salute would be overkill (and scary) attached to a flat headed rocket. you couldn't pay me to be there when it went up, but i'd watch it about 50 times on my PC ;)

Thanks, my rockets both went straight up though. I should have the videos up some time this evening. The first one was the loudest pyro I've ever heard, we should have been standing further away I built it for noise.

3" whistle to 8" chrysanthemum to flashing - Thanks for the header Dan!

3" with 3" core, by far the loudest rocket I've ever heard

The first rocket could have taken a 10" shell, but there weren't any on hand. It had a 6" core and took the 8" header like it wasn't even there. It actually looked like a 5" shell because it went a little higher than normal for an 8.

One word! NICE!!! :D

Those were awsome to see in person. The rocket that turned into cruise missle was mine :o . It was a 10" long 3lb salicylate whistle - lws with a 3/8" x 7 core, that I made in Fargo. The other ones like it that I flew in Fargo went straight up. Not sure what happened other than being stored for a couple months. The dozen 6" 3 pounders that I had from Fargo all flew straight so still had a great time at MFF :D .

*bows*

very nice, i can't imagine what one of your engines would do on a rocket with fins and nose cone. that puppy would get way up there.

hopefully one day i'll get to see one in person, i'm sure the videos aren't doing them propper justice.

"You put 50 feet of fuse on that kevin?"

lol... I'd put 3 feet of fuse on one of those things too.... I also use big PVC pipes for launch guide tubes...

I love the 8" Chrys shell... Incredible rockets!

I want to see one of the 3" whistles in person... How loud was the 3" core for real?

Like 115 decibel? >lawn mower\saw\rock concert...

The cruise missile was something else, looked like it went straight to the campground, and that was a hell of a report. Were you part of the MPAG delegation that brought a PGI convention worth of rockets? I was the guy who walked over looking for a launch rod for my girandola sky mine. Those were some nice rockets you guys were sending up, looked like half of them had 4" ball shells on 'em, nice heads for the rockets. Were those your Ti whistle rockets that took off silent and the whistle kicked in real slow like there was a volume knob?

The 3" core was the loudest firework I've ever heard, of course I was way to close when it went off. I thought about leaving twenty seconds of video before hand so you would have some perspective comparing it to the cakes and such that were going off before it. Decibel wise I'm pretty sure it was at least 115, I was stationed at an F18 base for three years and they were not this loud, at least at the higher frequencies and they take off at a little over 120DB.

Q they were a goofy mix I was trying out, kind of a glitter comp heavy on metal light on sulfur and with the hollow curl mag. There was a 1000 grams of it on that rocket, 3 2.5" comets.

Fred were those your lampare rockets? They were excellent.
