BP Via Precipitation

Recommended Posts

Hey there,

I picked up the Tom Peregrin book and did as much online research as I could, but couldn't find a good comparison of what I'm looking for in this post. I'm going to ram my first rockets within a week or two here, and don't want to spend money where I don't have to.

Has anyone made BP using the precipitation method found in the Peregrin book for end burning rockets? Is it any better or worse than ball milling? I'd like to avoid the cost and potential explosion of a ball mill if possible.

Thanks,

Eric

i have not tried the CIA method but the general consensuses is ball milling is better also there is a very low chance of BP exploding in a ball mill.

The CIA method is very dangerous, like crazyboy said, and not worth it. Its very messy and where are you going to cook it. You can't do it in you house.

People have made BP in coffee grinders before... (Pudi lol)... But it's not the safest thing to do...

Llyold E. Sponenburgh (maker of the Sponenburgh mills <-- probably the best) had trouble getting BP to ignite in a ball mill... I believe he used steel media and it still took a while for it to ignite...

So if your using lead media, I highly doubt you'll ever have an accidental ignition... Anyways your supposed to ball mill at least 100 ft from your house\living things...

I made my ball mill for $1.39 (price of dextrin spacers for bearing)... Everything else I got around the house\friends...

The CIA method does work, and should get rockets into the air, but Alan Yates tests show it's a lot slower than even rock tumbler meal powder...
