LGM Posted August 26, 2007 Posted August 26, 2007 I,ve bought fuse, tubes, and a scale with my debit card online, in accounts my dad made. So if your dad sets up an account at Skylighter or Discount Pyro or wherever, he probably wouldn't mind if you just let him know you're ordering something.
invisibleworld Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 hi everyone, im willow and i have been a pyro pretty much my whole life. Yes of course iv done all the youtube model rocket explosives and whatnot and have ben doing those for years. This year i have really gotten into wanting to make my own fireworks, not co2 bombs or that whatnot, real fireworks. The fireworks i have made so far are firecrackers using armstrong's mix(yes i know the dangers to armstrong;s mix) and have also made bottle rockets. I dont consider the firecrackers as truely homemade because all i did was stick it in lego pieces and let dry. But i am pretty proud with the BP rockets. Two have failed and because of my younger days of model rocketry i knew what to look for. i completely made these rockets except for the BP. Now heres my main issue and why i am writing this thread, i am a high schooler(15 years old). i am very smart and have studied pyrotechnics for many ears over the internet. the two problems that stand in my way are obtaining materials and parents. my dad is fine with my hobby but my mother does not understand. i live with my mother and have seen if i could persuade her into allowing this hobby but she wasn't fazed by my attempts. because i am only 15 i have no way of accessing chemicals unless i find the equivlent in a product suh as model rocket estes engines for BP and stum remover as potasum nitrate. do any of you think you could help me with my situations, i really love thisas a hobby and i think i could do something related to pyrotechnics as a job but my mother will not agree. Thanks;willowI know what you mean when it comes to the parents going along with what you want to do. I was just like you when I was younger. I never did convince either parent. It just turned me into a lieing little sneak, until I moved on to something else. Now that I am older I thought I could do what I want, WRONG. Now my girlfriend rides me just as bad, but at least I have the final word. I wouldn't want to tell you to do anything against your parents wishes. I would start with your Black Powder rockets. You can use the argument that the hobby store sells Estes rockets and they recommend being 15 years old. Start building those and gradually start making your own. As for the materials Potassium Nitrate is real cheap and easy to get at a pottery supply store, seattlepottery.com as well as many other chems. sulfur can be had at a drug store. and charcoal you can make or use your BBQ brickets although not the best they will work. A cheap rock tumbler will work for a ball mill. www.harborfrieght.com $20.00. Same thing as United Nuks $59.00 one. It's not the best but good enough and cheap, as I figure your pressed for the bucks. If you don't worry about your mail, E-bay has a lot of sellers. Just read the posts in here and you will find many places to get it. Number ONE, be carefull and don't burn down your folks houses.
oskarchem Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 Well I have to say that my mom wasen't too happy when I started doing pyro... An I have to say also that I got into serious pyrotechnics just over a year now... well because I One day 25g of AP detonated like 45cm away from my face so from that time I don't play whith HE so much (well I do like to use RDX, PETN and some times Nitro glycerine). SO just show you parents what your doing and all of that maybe invite her to your lab and show her the process... Good luck PS: invisibleworld my girlfriend gets on my nerws as well...
WarezWally Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 Isn't it interesting, the first HE most people synth just happens to be one of the most unstable (*cough, not supposed to discuss*)
oskarchem Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 maybe because it's the easiest... But any way lets stop about the HE it's not the place...
pyrotechnics.tk Posted December 1, 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 I have some problems with my parents as wel, but I agreed with them that I only do pyrotechnics around Newjears eve. Maybe you can try that with your mom (would be the 4th of july for you)
ActiveA Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 And I thought I found pyro early in life. I didn't realize there were so many young pyros out there. I suppose it makes sense though - pyrotechnics are very addictive, and they can be learned about over the internet. What 15 year old isn't constantly on the web looking for something else he can get himself addicted to in order to counter his internet addiction?! Hey...I'm 15 and I've covered tons of things, i can do Rockets to Shells although my Candles are a bit of a disaster. everyone thinks I'm a regular kewl who makes C02 bomb and the like but I've never ever made any. I do have a problem with younger children and pyrotechnics though, i think I'm a bit of an exception with the amount of saftey i use. Then you see the kids throwing firecrackers at each other and that just annoys me because It's one of the reasons fireworks are banned in my country. Also, if i start early then hopefully i can get a job in a proper company like FOTI through experience. Young people are more often kewls than proper pyros.
WarezWally Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 bah we threw small firecrackers at each other, they were pretty weak though. You can thank the 100mg limit for that, loud but not dangerous.(If they went off in your hand it just went numb for 30mins instead of loosing your hand) Do FOTI even make their own stuff locally? I was speaking to someone in China who worked for them. They own a plant over there and export all over the world.

Both, apparently they have their fountains and rockets etc imported but the larger shells and larger rockets are made at a farm to the northwest area out of Sydney... Damn i want to work for them.
WarezWally Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 You mean 50mg and an OPEN hand? No the limit for Australia is 100mg Its buried deep in explosive legislation which I just love reading oh, and holding in the tips of your fingers, not a clenched hand
