Frozentech Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 Hello,I just tried to launch off my first rocket (4.0z) and CATO in launch tube what is wrong and how can i fix this? thanks Poor tube, poor nozzle, fuel grain not consolidated, too hot of powder.... You didn't tell enough about your rocket or the construction methods to even take an educated guess.
frogy Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 Please elaborate with your problems... A typical 4 oz. rocket is 1/2" by 5" or less... Some questions...How long was your rocket? How long was the core of your rocket? What was the ratios of the black powder you used? What charcoal was used in the black powder? How big was the nozzle diameter? What was the nozzle made out of?What was the tube made out of? You should have had a 1/2" by 5" rocket with a 3.5" core and a nozzle diameter or about 3/32" maybe a little larger... Common ratios for a core burner are 60:30:10...Commercial black powder is normally 75:15:10 or similar...
psyco_1322 Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 Launch tube? Did this rocket have any type of stabilizer? Or were you headed for a rocket launcher type of thing? Becuase rockets dont fly well without being stabilized. Cracks in your powder grain can also cause a CATO. If you dropped it or banged it against something before launch that could be your problem. Make another and try a second launch(WITH A STICK! ~22in.). Post a pic of the tube from the rocket that blew. That can also help determain its problem.
PyroMan16 Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 Make the plug/nozzel out of bentonite and kyanite (50/50) and increase the size of them. You could also increase the nozzel diameter and decrease the core length or just slow down your BP.
