jrhpyro14 Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 If I buy a 2.5' ball shell from pyrocreations.com, does it come with a lift cup? If it doesnt, then how would I lift my shell out of the tube?Would i have to make my own or can I buy them? sorry if it is a stupid question but i was just wondering.
frogy Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 I don't even see 2.5" on there site, but no they do not come with lift cups... If you look at there paper caps page they have these things called "cupsets" which I think are used as lift cups... They are out of stock at the moment, but I think they should have them soon...
pudidotdk Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 Cupsets are not normally used for lift cups, lift cups should be open at the top so the time fuse will have contact with the lifting charge. You can make your own lift cups, however not necessary. You can put the end of the quick match in a plastic bag along with the lifting charge and tie a knot and then tape it to the underneath of the shell. Or you could fold a cone with some paper and use it as lift cup.
jrhpyro14 Posted August 13, 2007 Author Posted August 13, 2007 ok, thanks for the info.i think i will try the bag or the cone thing, that sounds like it will work. thanks again
flying fish Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 I use the paper cone method myself, takes a couple seconds with some hot glue and scissors!
frogy Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 My friend uses a "Dixie" cup... I thought you could just use half of a cupset...
FrankRizzo Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 I use the deeper condiment cups you can get a fast food restaurants (sold at Sam's Club too).
invisibleworld Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 Half a cupset works, but I like FrankRizzo's idea about the condiment cups, less paper to smolder and clean.
WarezWally Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 I just buy 50 wax coated paper cups from the supermarket and cut a bit off the top. Leaves no mess in the mortar.
ST1DinOH Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 i know i'm new here, but if i may i'd like to suggest something http://www.alpineh2o.com/images/620.jpg these work great for 3 inch shells, just fold the bottom over and add a little tape to hold it in place. i fold it to help the shell sit lower in the gun. works like a charm. for larger shells these don't work, not enough capacity, but for smaller ones...it's perfect and you can get a ton of them dirt cheap at your local bottled water company...or do like i do...steal them from work.
jrhpyro14 Posted October 8, 2007 Author Posted October 8, 2007 hey thanks ST1i know you form pyrouniverse. thats cool that your over here too. (p.s. my name on pyrouniverse is Dr.Boom, damn i hate that name)

(p.s. my name on pyrouniverse is Dr.Boom, damn i hate that name) hey no problem bro, nice to be here. this place is a whole new ball o wax for me. i can give great advice on 1.4 stuff...but ask me how to build a shell and i'm completley in the dark. this just happens to be one of the few things i've managed to figure out. these cups work just fine...in the past i've even "rolled my own" out of the green moisture resistant paper that comes along with a case of 1.4. just roll a cone, tape it off, and bend the tip down to prevent spillage and allow the shell to seat properly in the bottom of the gun.
Mumbles Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 I don't even bother with cones or paper cups most of the time. I just place it in a plastic sandwich bag, and tape it on the bottom of ball shells. My favorite bags are those thin ones you get when picking out fruit at the grocery store. I will then often cover this with aluminum tape or some paper of some sort. My shells look nice until I fuse and lift them, then they appear to be about 50% masking tape.
psyco_1322 Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 I like lift "cups", nice hard cardboard combustion chambers.
persut Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 i like the sandwich bag method, you can measure and fill your bags, and if you dont use them all you can store them easily.
