visco fuse rocket

No it is not ,they are both rockets, but with fairly different charecteristics .Its the same as saying that whistle is the same as APCP rockets. I'd like to see someone make a 6lb visco rocket.

A BP rocket usually futures a thick walled paper tube , solid clay bulkhead[top] and solid clay nozzle

A Visco rocket features a thin paper casing and a crimp nozzle.

In the BP version the fuel is hard packed to resemble a grain which depending on the type of BP motor can be an:

Or a Core Burner

So no,Visco-BP arent the same , they are both rockets, they fly and thats about it.

lol apparently I fail miserably because my green flying fish rockets always CATO without fail. My 1/16" chinese fused ones work though but I'm interested in how the fish ones look.

An old thread, but I do admire artificier's artwork - nicely done.

Visco can be ganged together like JATO rockets... seven of them in a cable pattern, and wound with thread, with the central fuse being longer for lighting, will make a nice little rocket with suitable casing. I remember doing something similar 20 years ago, and the results were good. If I were to do it again, I'd prime the 6 other fuses with a bit of NC + BP slurry to ensure even and immediate ignition - I remember them chugging a bit in flight.

Or, how about interleaving FF fuse for a bit of color in the 7-fuse strand? Plenty of fun to be had, cheaply.

These little rockets really are a lot of fun. :D I just started making them out of aluminum foil tape. They fly up a couple hundred feet carrying a small load of crackling fish fuse. The aluminum foil tape seem to work really well. It seems to form a really nice nozzle when it's warped with the choke string.

You know, in the end, these sorts of rockets are probably easier than bottle rockets. 1/4" tube regular BP rockets are fun to make, but cannot be whipped up as quickly as something like this. You can get all sorts of effects from the variety of fuses available. By definition, a flying fish fuse produces a bit of thrust. Contain them; think of them as strands of fuel, in a tube. Add different color strands. At the top, leave a slight void, add a layer of BP as "burst", and have it eject a payload of more FF/FL fuse. Stealthy and fun. Edited by Swede

I've been having trouble getting my fuse rockets off the ground. I'm using the thicker chinese uncoated visco (I also tried crackling fuse). I've tried different fuse lengths (~1-2"), different things for wrapping the fuses (masking tape, kraft). Nothing really seems to work for me. The best I had was like...5 feet off the ground. Hmmm...I am going to go outside and test how propulsive this fuse is, and see if maybe I have something better laying around. For some reason or another I'm just not getting enough thrust...

I guess one thing that just came to mind...perhaps since it is thick fuse that I'm using, the choke nozzle is perhaps not small enough to generate enough thrust (the design calls for the engine to be "choked" around the ignition fuse). Maybe I'll try replacing the central fuse with something thinner.

OK, I have 1#, 2# & 3# down pat, no CATOs, good lift, Benzo, BP, whistle, all good...

Visco??? @%$#*&%@$#(*$@@#@!!!!! Visco!!!

I got a 6500' roll at PGI, I have cut about 250' off of it and have made an untold number of these little buggers and not one, not one has gone the whole flight without problems.

I have a guy in my club bugging me for 50-3# BP 4" long rockets to loft his fragile 6" shells (theme shells) and I cant get past these little buggers to finish what I promised to him!!

Thanks a lot guys! Could you have just send a packet of crack or pain killers in the mail instead?

Hi, my name is Dave, I am am Visco rocket guy. (All in unison) "Hi Dave"

Haha! I think because the various visco varieties are all so inconsistent, it will be impossible to come upon a perfect formula for them. It's more something you do in the backyard on occasion. If it is giving you such fits, I'd say let it go.

Swede, Its all good, I got to play with fire this weekend and feel much better now. Good advice, gonna let it go for now but I will be back!

Lampare, a 26 bucket creamora (better than PGI, took most of the eyebrows at the firing table), 3 rockets, and cool weather. Ahhhhhhhhh...... :P
