japcat Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 I heard people using lead fishing weights in the ball mill. What size do people use? Does it matter what size?
FrankRizzo Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 1/2" is pretty much generic for mill jars 6" ID or smaller. I strongly suggest against lead sinkers unless you have absolutely nothing else though. You'll find that they wear down extremely fast and contaminate your powder.
cplmac Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 I agree with Frank, I'm using 1/2" lead antimony balls and in less than a year there is substantial wear. If these were lead only they would be star cores already.
japcat Posted July 12, 2007 Author Posted July 12, 2007 So will Hornady 315 Lead Balls for guns be good or will contaminate the powder? Also is there anything that i can use and can buy from local stores?
Jason Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 Those lead balls will work, however any lead will contaminate the powder a little.
pyroman1962 Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 I always preferred ceramic media. It always got the job done quick and you dont have to worry about the lead getting into your powder.
