PyroGb Posted January 5 Posted January 5 I have commented on this before and after putting down pyrotechnics for a while I have picked it up with mor success and I have gotten some pretty good red stars using road flares
Richtee Posted January 6 Posted January 6 Used them for years with good result. Put them in water and cleaned off the floaties, and evaped it.
pyrojig Posted January 6 Posted January 6 Are you isolating the strontium nitrate from the material this way or removing the debris (waxed paper etc) ?

All the sawdust/filler will float to the top. A lot of the sulfur too. I cut the paper off before. It’s not perfect- and may require some formulae adjustment... but it works. PyroGb Posted January 6 Author Posted January 6 IMG_1105.mov IMG_1091.mov Okay so I live in Alaska and do not have the chemicals required to use the strontium nitrate however I have found that squeezing the powder out of the flares works best with a pair of pliers or the like. Then I removed the sawdust but nothing else ik this will lead to a slightly worse star but I got them to work good. I then pressed them into stars and after drying I dipped it in a BP primer to help light and to hold them together. I’m not sure why they fall apart for me but they do. And I’ll attach a video too we finally got a good showing this new years 🥳
PyroGb Posted January 6 Author Posted January 6 If I cut off the top and then squeeze the formula out I don’t end up with any wax paper in mine
