lumber Posted January 5 Posted January 5 i have been doing fireworking for about 1 year now and in the past i used to dry my Bp and stars by haveing them in a try then puting a fan heater half a meter away but now i want to make a drying box as i dident trust that sistem and i only have a fan heater on hand i have some duct pipe so i can make a 90Degree bend and a spark mesh will this be good?
cmjlab Posted January 6 Posted January 6 Are you drying inside or outside? Outside is not a huge issue IMHO, use a cardboard box and move it far away from people/property in case your heater throws a spark. If worse case happens, you're out a box, cheap heater and chems...... sucks, but you move on. If it's inside, I'd be reluctant to use a regular nichrome wire type heater, in case it sucked a piece of lint or dust through and into your items to catch fire. Then at best you have lots of damage and authorities asking questions. At worse.....well there's plenty of news stories of people that made bad pyro decisions.....
Arthur Posted January 6 Posted January 6 Everything that you can do to prevent a heater setting fire to some dust or lint will stop you becoming a statistic with burns -which someone may misinterpret as attempts at arson-, is a worthy project. Make sure that nothing can make a spark near compounds. consider a refrigeration cycle electric dehumidifier, consider having a fine mesh screen between the heater and the compound being dried, consider what the neighbours will say if something ignites (your home insurance will not cover it!)
