Darkonez Posted Saturday at 08:42 PM Posted Saturday at 08:42 PM Here In the uk it’s currently 9 degrees Celsius and humidity is 88%. And as I’m sure is the same with most of us we don’t bring things that go bang into the house. So my trusty shed/mad inventors workshop is my only safe space. It is insulated a little but it’s still just a big shed at the end of the day and cold. So I’m looking into a way to dry my stars and cardboard tube and hemis, so I’m going down the road of making something that’s cheap and cheap to run. The current path of thought is to make a box of a insulated material and use peltiers to create a warm side for warming the space and the cold side with a adapted heat sink to attract the moisture in the air and collect it. I’m in the thinking and planning stage any thoughts ?
Arthur Posted Saturday at 09:11 PM Posted Saturday at 09:11 PM Get a domestic dehumidifier inside a big cardboard box with the stars inside, big box meaning the size of a fridge or a fridge-freezer.
Darkonez Posted Saturday at 10:16 PM Author Posted Saturday at 10:16 PM That’s basically the plan but without buying a new humidifier which isn’t cheap. And the wife will not be happy if hers comes back black like most things in my shed. I plan to make my own humidifier of sorts.
cmjlab Posted Sunday at 10:14 PM Posted Sunday at 10:14 PM For cheap - I agree with the large box, but a simple ceramic space heater, a cutout for the hot air to enter, a couple small vents for air to discharge on the other end, and you can leave it outside for the night. I live in a pretty humid area as well, and that is all I've ever needed for a drying box. Some day I will make a fancy one, but I like the simplicity, the affordability, and of it ever goes up in flames - that's alright, it's outside and wont cost me much to replace. I've got 4 years in my current box, I've not had that happen and it's still holding up. 1
