TheSidewinder Posted November 4 Posted November 4 We've adjusted some settings that should (almost) eliminate that recent spam with Temu. But please use the "Report" function if you see a spam post, as that helps us clear it as soon as possible. Thank you! 1
Arthur Posted November 4 Posted November 4 Does the forum have a lexicon of forbidden words? Perhaps it does in the top moderator levels, perhaps the word TEMU could be added to (start) that list.
mx5kevin Posted November 5 Posted November 5 For new users, if they comment, filling in a CAPTCHA would be useful for the first 10 comments. These spams are generated by bots, personally it would cost too much energy for someone to do this. Could try creating a topic called „About Me”, and newly registered users can access only this. This would only appear to newly registered members, and the staff members. Here the user should write briefly about his professional experience, why he registered, if there is a reference, optionally, about his previous online work. And if he wrote meaningfully about himself, then this was allowed by the staff members, the comment will appear. If he cannot write meaningfully about himself, the account must be deleted. Then the next rank is about a week's waiting time before he can use the forum. This would also filter out that someone who registers will immediately ask questions that the search engine throws up with a small search. Users have to write to the staff members on the Sciencemadness forum before they can join. This method works there, there are fewer members who do not belong there.
mx5kevin Posted November 5 Posted November 5 In the past i tested IPS suite admin interface. Ranks could be assigned privileges. Some of them were such that the user can access the functions after XY days. There was also an option that the user could access a single topic or function within a rank. But if a user must solve a CAPTCHA before commenting and the admin or moderator must enable his content before its appear, is a very effective way to filter spam. Spammers want their content to appear quickly. There are forums where you have to wait at least 48 hours after registration before you can use the functions. Youtube use a function where the content creator must allow the comment. Blogger using CAPTCHA+required the administrator to allow the comment, and no spam problem. Instead of the BP question, not everyone would know this important safety question: Write the most know substance name what are used to coating magnesium powder, but it does not protect it the metal from NH4ClO4.
Zumber Posted November 7 Posted November 7 I am continuously reporting spammers posts it seems they are increasing more day by day... Very annoying.
TheSidewinder Posted November 7 Author Posted November 7 And we appreciate the reports, it lets us get rid of it quickly! This sort of thing seems to happen every year around this time. Not sure why.
TheSidewinder Posted November 7 Author Posted November 7 Following up... I've enabled "Automatic Moderation" to help combat the spam. Please continue to make reports for Spam. Once two members have reported a topic, the contents will be hidden. (We'll still have to remove it, but it won't be visible, so the spammer's efforts are wasted.) Thank you! 2
