streetlethal Posted August 8 Posted August 8 Will this comp ruin tooling if pressed? I have woodys plates fyi and wanted to be careful of the fine mesh aluminum in the comp.
cmjlab Posted August 8 Posted August 8 What size metal and what shape is called for in the formula? (I.e. Atomizer ~325 Aluminum, etc.) Charles
Mumbles Posted August 12 Posted August 12 I wouldn't say ruin. The effect of most glitters is different whether cut, pumped, or rolled. As a general oversimplification, I find wetter methods like cutting or rolling give a coarser glitter, where as dryer methods like pumping tend to be more fine grained and delicate. I'm not sure if it has to do with the actual amount of water used, or the generally longer drying times stars have when made wetter. That said, some glitter compositions handle water better than others. If you do use a wetter method, be on the look out for any adverse reactions, heating up, or ammonia/hydrogen sulfide odors. I could see boric acid utilization being more important with certain compositions when getting the comp good and wet.
