Mumbles and Sidewinder, I appreciate the control and input you add to APC, I dont care for the way Kyle admins his site but as long as there are the feature rich extras on Passfire, I will continue to be a member.

Regretfully, I have no idea of the credentials of anyone here and have no idea if they have been a part of a club or are just K3wls. Dont get me wrong, This is a way better site then PU or PG, only kiddies there, I need assistance from old timers and credible proven formulas. If only there was a way to get the best of both sites...

End Rant

Thank you, Dave.

As apples and oranges are both fruit, so are Passfire and APC both pyrotechnic resources. But each is unique, each has its own appeal, and each has its fans (and detractors).

I know that we have quite a few members here who are also members (and "regulars") at Passfire. And as long as they follow the rules when visiting here, I couldn't care less what they do and how they behave when on Passfire.

Like Mumbles, I'll share anything and everything I've learned about pyrotechnics with anyone who asks.

However, my strength is in the back-end technical administration of this site, rather than raw pyro and chemistry knowledge (which Mumbles has in spades).

But we're both on the same page with our vision of the future for APC and, from where I sit at least, the future looks great.

And most importantly, were it not for our members...... we wouldn't be here.

I appreciate all you do!

How the heck do I get you to one of the NLP shoots? Our last one of the season is this Saturday.

You're welcome.

The tenth, eh? Hmm..... where is it?

If it's not more than ~1 hour away from me, I'll gladly drive there. I haven't had enough "pyro fix" this year. ;)

I'm about as ed off as I get. As the next MPAG shoot nears there hasn't been a day it hasn't rained in the past 2 weeks. Every time I get out to do some building I get dumped on. Coupled with that, I do not have enough BP made to finish my multibreak shell, and my mill went out earlier today while making more. Bearings or a pulley I believe, haven't opened it up yet. I also discovered that a dichromate coating is not enough to prevent Mg from reacting in nitrate compositions when dried at elevated temperatures (~150 degrees). The stars became riddled with gas pockets.

That's about it....

4 FAILED ROCKETS IN A ROW!!

One ended up chasing me away from the launch site.

Looks like my BP may be getting up to par. My last batch had literally NO catos.

I had a nozzle blowout, and the header almost torched a car, luckily it missed.

Are you sure that isn't just an artifact of drying at such a high temperature? Although it wouldn't suprise me if the temperature caused some reactions.

Not sure it was the Mg, this has happened be before when I attempted drying some C8 stars and they became really spongy or would just completely broke apart. This was at ~ 200*F IIRC.

Pretty sure. It is the temperature I have been using to dry all my stars recently. TT and AP based mostly. The only difference between what I was drying and TT is a lack of sulfur and the addition of Mg. I suppose I'll add a touch of boric acid next time to help with any Mg that was not entirely coated.

NO!!!

Boric acid only helps with Al.

It completely screws up with Mg, look into binding with something else rather. Red gum might be one to think about.

I can find my way around PHP and SQL if I have to and my other half is a mathematician so I think I could probably throw together a calculator and/or formula database.

If someone wants to let me know what sort of features they want I will have a play with it.

Search for Swedes Parlon thread, it seems to work very well with Mg coating.

Make that 6 rockets.

Goodness. WHAT IS MY FREAKING DEAL?!

I think it may be time to move on to stronger tubes. My handrolled tubes arent the greatest.

Garrhhhhhh!

I just found out I'm staying in the mountains for yet another day. When I get back home I'll have less than two and a half days to finish everything. I only have a 2.25" crossette mine, 2.5" multibreak/beraq and a 2" zinc can shell.

Not to mention I have to coat some Grass seed, granulate some BP, fill, spike paste shells, make a ton of inserts and make a set piece/fountains. Plug my mortars, get some more... Good god, with less than 3 days.

Thankfully I'm having two friends come in and help me make everything. Hopefully I can meet the quota I set up for myself.

Does anyone know how long BP/grass seed/ rice hulls takes to dry? Everything seems to dry super fast for me, 1/2" charcoal stars take about 4-5 days to dry all the way through for me.

I would say make those parlon stars that dry within hours. I made BP on cotton seed and it was dry with in hours. Lift. Within a few hours. I wouldn't make any charcoal stars cause it is a little late now. Edited by TrueBluePyro

With a fan, and stirring every few hours you can dry burst or granulated BP in 24 hours or so. You might want to weigh those 1/2" charcoal streamers. They may seem dry but not be. I think that may be part of my problems lately, not dry stars. A drying box will speed things up as well.
