grrr-

Ya know, if I was in the US right now I wouldn't be soo ticked that the fireworks bigots were prancing around like ninies but there's only so much money I can send to the "Help the homeless Pyro's" Fund before it gets to my wallet. I see where FireFox just got canned and in the heat of the moment (when I couldn't ring someone's neck of course) I ordered almost a 1000 ft of fuse from "other means" just to spite these commie bastards.

My underground bunker is getting full but there's still enough room for you guys and gals to swing by my place in Tennessee so we can have a pyro bash, maybe I should plan something around the 4th of July...

How close are you to NC? And do you have a good shoot site?

I don't really want to reply for Dr. Boom, but NC is pretty far from his residence.

Grrrrrr, i can't make my Magnalium right, the Magnesium just keeps burning off. i tried a sulfer flux and that didn't work, it just made what i did end up with smell like poo, so then i tried a salt flux and that seemed to work, but then the can i was useing burned thru and the Magnesium burned off again, i only want to make 300-400 gram batches, any tips on this stuff?

First, forget about flux and sulfur melts, unless you want to make a huge quantity. I have made many batches that turn out perfectly this way. I use a 400mL stainless steel container with loose fitting lid. The lid serves to let gasses out, but it prevents any air from getting back in. It takes about ~10 minutes to make 150g of 50:50MgAl. I use a pair of pliers to gently tilt the container in a circular motion, stirring isn't necessary. You'll know when it is fully melted when it feels like liquid upon manipulation with pliers.

Here's some pieces of Magnalium a made a few months ago:http://img530.imageshack.us/img530/3154/mgalpieces02eb6.th.jpg

That sounds good, do you have a pic of your melting pot? and what do you use to heat it with? also, do you melt the al first and then add the mg or do you just melt it all together at once?.

Son of a bit**, just made 200g of Shimizu Falls with -325 mesh bright aluminium. NEVER AGAIN! This stuff is so nasty to work with, it stinks, floats in the air, is greasy and stains everything!

Grrrr, i hate it......but the stars are so beautifull.

I know exactly what you mean, i too hate it. It flows like liquid and gets everywhere. Its nice to have though as any flake Al isn't easy to find in Australia

I've done a 300-something gram batch in a "tin" can... I just used regular propane torches (pencil torches) to heat it. While melting I had it open-top, melted the aluminum first, then I used a piece of drill rod to stir in the Mg.. I found it worked best if I stirred constantly and as soon as a piece of Mg was melted, add more! When I had mixed in all the Mg, I pushed the lid down a bit and put the can in a bucket of water to cool it quickly. I've been trying to find a stainless container with a lid that would work, but I want one that's tapered so the mgal will come out and haven't found one yet.

I've tried using salts to flux, and found that the salts are heavier than the mgal, so they sink to the bottom of the mixture and add contaminants which can affect color comps! And having read to use sulfur to put out mg fire - I found it did a GREAT job of making the Mg burn explosively.

Might make some more this weekend, if I do, maybe we'll get some pictures.

Wow someones not happy :P

Be more specific. How did it get broken? Did the belt break? Did the motor burn out? Did the whole thing explode because you were milling bp with steel media? We might be able to help you fix it if you describe the problem in more detail.

The pulley, on one side it popped off. But I fixed it was a k'nex piece. The gear one.

I am seriously considering quitting pyro now, everything feels like hindrance hindrance hindrance... Everyday feels so hopeless to me now, I never get anything done because I can't make anything without a ball mill or press.

What the hells pyro without fast BP...

I have a granddad which promise more than he can keep and everything sucks...

I hate my country too, or at least right where I'm livin' I feel like the only one not having access to what everyone else have access to.

"Oh, you can buy that here and there. It's also cheap"

All I can say to that is no... Not where I live
