I have to agree with you rogue, the more law abiding citizens have guns the less criminals are going to want to risk their lives. Another factor, the country who's citizens are armed could much better defend itself. If any military attempted to attack say... the US, they would have a few hundred or more armed civilians to deal with (and I'd be one of them), the militia potential greatly increases. Overall this helps the Gov. perform, and focus on other more important tasks. Which the US Gov. needs to take another look at where all their money is going buuut I won't get into that. (and I don't mean the war).

Law-abiding citizens can still be robbed, and the stole handguns will then be circulated. ANyway I don't make the laws so I am not going to argue about them.

In other news my mum came home with a pack of Nurofen Plus, 200mg Ibuprofen and 12.8mg Codiene Phosphate, let the good times roll.

I have a feeling this military/police should be the only people with guns orginates from Hollywood/media. Average Joe or soccer moms generally don't hang around people who own guns the only form of gun knowledge they get is from the media. TV show/news out there show terrorists shooting up american citizens(24/Jack Bauer), gangsters(50 cent/some rappers), and some random emo kid who decided to put a few bullets in his classmates. The average gun owner is represented as a person who uses guns for personal gain or for revenge. While the police/swat/military are represented like heroes. Hey look that guy killed the bank robber he is a hero!

Same thing goes for people interested into pyrotechnics/explosives. The only people you hear about using explosives are "the terrorists" in some middle eastern country. Hmm even though I am an American and your an American I am still going to call you a terrorist/rasict arab remark(ie diaper head) just because you are into explosives.

[/end rant]

[but there is no legal justification of owning a handgun (other than law enforcement) but target shooting,]

I hunt deer with a handgun. I use either a .44 mag revolver or a T/C Contender in .30 Herrett. It's quite challenging.

Banning select fire firearms and supressors (well, requiring fingerprinting and a $200 tax stamp) didn't really do anything to crime rates with those types of firearms. People who use them in crimes don't go and buy one from the gun shop either, the process just made it harder for law abiding citizens to get.

Criminals will still be able to get them, but we wont. Politics. Yay.

Whatever, in other news I think I am getting an AK, even though the 7.62mm round isn't that great, and 5.56 is superior and is only getting cheaper. Or, an AK chambered in 5.56.... here we go. :)

Posted

Don't sell the 7.62 x 39 short. It can be quite accurate if the firearm is reasonably well made, and some of the cheap sov-bloc stuff can actually shoot quite well. It won't shoot with a Rem. 700, but they're not all half bad.

With a ballistic profile roughly similar to the .30-.30 Winchester, the 7.62 x 39 actually has the edge, IMHO on the 5.56 in wind-drift and down range retained energy beyond 300 yards. Cheap ammo make it a great "blaster", but with proper work even some of the crappy SKS's can shoot very well.

The biggest problems with almost all of this type of firearms is the trigger pull that seems like trying to drag a brick over sandpaper. PM me and i can give you some tips. ;)

Bad, school starts tomorow, another 9 months of pain and suffering, not looking forward to it.

I've been having nightmares about school for the last 3 nights now and a headache that won't subside

I have issues lol.

Oh shit. ive just blown the house's switch. When i tried the rock tumbler from the USA with a voltage converter it worked to start off with, then all the electrical appliances in the house turned off without warning. I went to check on the milling in the garage and found it smoking. When i took it apart, part of the motor was charred and burnt, when i looked at the converter nothing was wrong with it as far as i can see. i believe it could be that the plug doesnt convert the frequency from 60 hertz USA to 50Hz UK.

Anyone got any ideas of what i can do about a new motor? the mill i have (or had for that matter) is the harbour freight model wih the single 3Lb barrel. Anyone in the UK know where to get a motor that'll suit this mill?

thanks

Thats fairly tragic! I have not heard of anyone else having crispy motors from Harbor Freight. I would think it was a current issue, albiet too much.

I don't know how much the 10Hz differential would matter, even the frequency here in the USA differs some.

That cheap little squirrel cage induction motor is designed for 60hz and if ran at 50hz will produce excessive heat. So if fully loaded it would fry quite easily. Actually dosen't take much of an excessive load at 60hz to fry it. The little plastic tab that keeps the end of the container from rubbing wore away on mine and the container started rubbing the metal, increased the load enough to fry my motor. I replaced it with a much larger motor. But since I built a much larger ball mill, I rarely use the little one anymore.

*Sigh* poor me huhn? :(

fredjr, where did you get the motor from? i was considering a fan motor of somesort, my friend suggested adding a gearbox to decrease speed but increase torque. Have you got any pictures?

p.s. you say that you dont use the small one anymore, if your in the UK would you be willing to sell the motor? :D

At a time I considered getting a lisence for target and action pistol in a club. Its just too much hastle. Have to wait over 6 months before I can advance from a .22 rimfire to a .357. If I wanna go out and kill someone I could very well use a .22! Just as easy as a .45, its quiet and accurate!

Bullshit.

It’s hard enough getting a rife license let alone a pistol one. I’ve looked into it once but all the bullshit you have to go through is ridicules eg must be with a gun club for 6 mouths before you can apply and then club president has to sign that it all good.

Unlucky isnt meant to be some of the stricktest gun laws in australia? it isnt that much better than over here in the uk

Bullshit.

If you want to kill someone you go and buy a pistol from some shady characters at some shady bar at the train station..

Or just use a knife/blunt object/car..

Or for some of us there will always be those HE's -_-

I think it is rediculous when you look at gun laws in some Countries..

Belgium's just god Thightend alot because some 18 year old asshole shot a kid and it's babysitter..

If you really want to kill people there will always be plenty of options, Hey it's 9/11 today ..

Anyway my dad has a .22 and a .32acp wich were perfectly legal with permits untill that unfatefull day a couple of month's back.

But we won't sell them, who is going to check it?

And if I later want a decent weapon I am going to buy it on a black market. I will never hurt people with it, I am just a fan of gun's, fireworks and even explosives.. Everything goverments hate :(

Posted
The thing is the government dont neccesararly hate stuff like that, its what ever the public doesnt like if the public doesnt like guns, amatuer pyro, explosives it will certainly be banned (if enough people kick up a fuss) where as things that kill people everyday (cars, fags etc) will never be banned because the public likes that and if the government outlaw it the prime minister/president, who ever will get voted out.

Fuck I hate the news, they blow bullshit... Every article, that tells something about chemistry tells bullshit. Just now I read on the methanol crisis, that took 68 lives 2 days and 5 years ago(same time as 9/11, strange, huh) and they say "mehanol is basically chemically the same as ehtanol, methanol's main component is ethanol"

Another vent comin' yer way... And now a word from our sponser.

Oh my gosh I can't believe how retarded things are around here. I was buying some pvc pipe to make a 1/2 inch repeater the other day and also some 1 1/2 inch pipes for a water cannon with r-134a- and you wouldn't believe what kinda mess I "almost" got into.

First when I went to the counter the guy checking was like "got some home projects going eh?"

So I talked with the guy alittle trying to be nice and I forgot something and went to get it. When I came back two people were at the counter with the checker and some woman (whom I believe was the manager) asking questions about my "intent" for buying so much pipe.

Now, at this point I really had to remember that I was in the military and my professionalism and possible future promotions could have been at stake. So I calmly explained what "some" of the pipe was to be used for and let the checker guy (the only one who seemed to have a clue) see my mil. ID. The others asked to see it but I politely said they should contact their local law enforcement agency for details.

Oh man was I hot- if I hadn't been in the service I would have not-so-politely told the lady who was asking foolish questions what she could have done with her life that would have made other people happy.

Keeping a cool head in the face of ugly ignorance and stupidity will get you out of a not-so-good situation usually... 90% of the time. If that doesn't work, flash a gov't ID in a spook fashion and tell them not to interfer with offical business works in the other 10%.

Gah.

OUCH. Its getting bad. Whats it coming to when a person can not buy plastic pipe. Its not like you were buying foot long steel pipes and endcaps in bulk.

I've told people at the hardware store I want PVC for a potato cannon. Their responses were surprisingly positive. :o

Tell them its for your "Pneumatic starch accelerator" and see what kind of look they give you.

What really gets me is all of the chemms bein banned/regulated. Just like guns, if you ban the chems that people use for m-80s(and about a million other productive and safe uses) guess who the only people with m-80s and "bombz" will be......

Darn the cpsc and the media.
