Pyrophoric30 Posted June 7 Posted June 7 Hello pyros. Is it possible to make metallic red star without using magnalium. Also SrNO3 is not available. The specific composition i have in mind is buell red. kclo4 - 35.35 srco3 - 25.25 magnalium - 14.14 replaced with dark alum parlon - 13.13 replaced with pvc red gum - 7.07 replaced with phenolic resin dextrin - 5.05 After altering the composition and have a test fire, theres no red flame can be seen. Not even pale. It’s just plain yellow. I tried organic shimizu red and it produced pale red
Zumber Posted June 7 Posted June 7 It is better to wait till you have right chemicals in hand. Substitute chemicals with other doesnt work well every time. Try out organic red recipe and study star formulas meanwhile. You seem you still dont have organic fuels like red gum and shellac in hand and good chlorine donor too.....magnelium parlon and red gum you have replaced with aluminium pvc and phenolic resin has created this problem in your test.
Pyrophoric30 Posted June 7 Author Posted June 7 Thanks man. Actually, what i have right now is the only chemical available here. Can i request some metallic stars with the chemicals/metal i have. Or some good organic stars using carbonate. As far as i know, chlorate red tend to give much more brighter stars than perchlorate but i dont what the hassle to change my burst charge to a sulfurless composition.
Zumber Posted June 7 Posted June 7 You should prepare list of chemicals according to your projects and order it. Metallic stars have more brilliance and organic star have deepness combination of both creat advantages of metallic and organic effects. Organic stars lit easy while metallic needs some hot prime to stay lit after strong burst & against wind pressure. Try to search forum sections to find what composition are you willing to do its hazards safety concern and read a lot about it... Then prepare list of chemicals and order chemicals.
pyrojig Posted June 10 Posted June 10 (edited) Are you sure your chems are as labeled? Or could there be a mix up in the strontium carb? Your substitutions may be aiding in too hot of a decomposition. Go back to magnal (not dark reactive Al) and red gum( alter the ratios to reduce the fuels available ) Edited June 10 by pyrojig
