Hello. I couldn't find info about this question so I'm writing here. What do you think about this way to make bp:

Boil water and dissolve all KNO3. Then add C, S and mix the mixture well. Then boil the mixture mixing it all the time. When the biggest part of water evaporates, turn off the heat, let bp get dry on the sun and then add it to ballmill.

this is similar to the CIA method it is very messy and inefficent. it is usually used by people who don't have a ballmill so its kind of pointless to do it then put it in a ball mill.

Do a search on "CIA black powder". One warning though, boiling off the excess water is not a safe or efficient way to do it. Good CIA powder uses the lower solubility of KNO3 at low temps ( and the insolubility of charcoal and sulfur ) to remove the water, by adding refrigerated alcohol to the H2O/KNO3/C/S sludge. The KNO3 will "crash" out of solution into microscopic crystals rather than forming large ( and less effective ) crystals by evaporation. The BP sludge is filtered off and dried.

More explicit directions can be found with a search, or read Introductory Practical Pyrotechnics by Tom Perigrin.

Hi

I tried the CIA-Method myself and I can say, yes it is very messy.

PS: Here is my first succesfull blackpowder( 1g) that has been ball milled ( no kidding!)

for one hour. The secret is that I am using oval fishing sinkers and they work a lot better

then lead balls:
