Zumber Posted May 27 Posted May 27 You have to look for what oxidizer have used ( which is hygroscopic or not, compatible or incompatible) and what type of binder is used. Here in this case sodium nitrate is hygroscopic and binder is dextrin (which is water activated) if you use alcohol or acetone with dextrin it is not usefull. If alcohol is solvent the binder should be red gum shellac etc (which acts as a fuel also) If solvent is acetone you have to use parlon as a binder(which acts as a chlorine donor also) Another system is to use NC lacquer to bind your star which I recommend here. So eliminate dextrin from composition and bind with either nc lacquer or parlon/acetone for binding star. I really think you have to alter your formula, dont use sodium bicarbonate as sodium nitrate produce excellent illuminating yellow or gold light with magnelium as a fuel. Search pyrotex yellow star here in this forum and use nc or parlon acetone binding system if you live in high humidity ares. 1
