Dragon99 Posted April 27 Posted April 27 (edited) Hello, Can anyone help me? What can i use instead of shellac? I don't have shellac. Edited April 27 by Dragon99
Zumber Posted April 27 Posted April 27 Red gum. Shellac and red gum are organic fuels and shellac is superior than red gum. See how much you need to substitute may he 1:1.
All10Fingers Posted April 27 Posted April 27 Pine resin. Everyone hates on it. It's a little smokey and leaves a little slag. But it still has always worked for me without compromising the colors or burn rate. Idk about the substitution ratios for your purposes. What I do is simply add about 75% of whatever your subbing for. Then little by little add small amounts til it looks about like what I'm trying to make. It's kinda sticky, but it's cheap and non toxic. Plus I've found it helps ignite stubborn stars. I think because it melts as it burns, it makes the fire stick to the star

Zumber Posted April 28 Posted April 28 It is shellec but not superior than shellec flakes. This is second quality but not as good as flake shellac. It works too in stars but not as good as flake shellec.

Zumber Posted April 28 Posted April 28 (edited) 12 hours ago, sachinagg said: Phenolic resin? Nope. Phenolic resin available here as a fine powder in our country and there are two versions, one is white & another is pale yellow with aromatic scent. Shellac with coarse grade is also known as shellac dana as you stated above but it in not as good as flake shellec. It might be for wood working , wood polishing and paint store grade. Flake shellac costs here 6 times more as of Aluminium powder. Around Indian rupee 3000/- per kg. Please see attatchment for flake shellac. Edited April 28 by Zumber

Mr. Zumber shellec flake is easily available here when I purchased it's cost 350₹ kg, and right now cost is 1200 to 1500 ₹ kg. I want to know trade name of phenolic resin which one good for pyrotechnics or pyro works. And lac dana more costly than shellec.
Zumber Posted April 29 Posted April 29 (edited) Besides pyrotechnics shellac is used for other applications too and accordingly it cost varies. Pure pyro grade shellac cost between 2500 to 3000 Rs per kg as of today. More trade names of phenolic resins are PF resin( phenol farmaldehyde) & Phenolic resin. Ask Jagannath Chemicals for more names. Edited April 29 by Zumber
