superspike23 Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 hello with all. I succeeded in obtaining strontium nitrate and barium nitrate. I lay out like component: barium *nitrate strontium *nitrate *soufre wood *charbon potassium *nitrate I will like to carry out a Bengal light which lights in red. Are the components in my possession sufficient?I'd like too realised a green bengal light
Umphrey Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 If I understand you correctly, you have:Strontium NitrateBarium NitratePotassium NitrateSulfurCharcoal Do you not have any chlorine donors? It is Strontium Monochloride that produces the most red spectrum light output, without a chlorine donor it will not form in the flame. You will be hard pressed to produce anything that is not a washed out red.
DeAdFX Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 Strontium will emit a red without a chlorine donor however it will be rather weak and slightly orangey. I also recommend not using barium nitrate it will destroy your red mix... Get some parlon/pvc/or saran.
pudidotdk Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 I've wondered a little about Saran.. where is it bought?I can get Parlon and PVC but not Saran. Those go-getters need Saran! (I know that there are some that does not use Saran, but still...)
deadman Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 As far as I know saran is a PVC subsititute and in most cases can be used for eachother in most cases. Saran is getting harder to find. I know in the US Discount Pyro lists it at about 6 US dollars per pound.
