michigander Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 Hey, this is my first post, and I am relatively new to pyrotechnics, so please bear with me. Anyways, on to the point! I've been looking at different options for flash powder, and it seems that it would be hard to replicate the common KCLO4/Al 70/30 mixture, due to difficulty to obtain the KCLO4, so I've been considering alternative flash mixes. I've been wondering about a KCLO4 based flash, but I really haven't read much about how sensitive and powerful it would be. So, I was browsing some of the tubes and fuse at cannonfuse.com, when I stumbled upon this Pyro Guide. It lists a forums consisting of:50 parts KCLO430 parts Sulfur20 part Aluminum I also wondering if I could use dusting sulfur, obtainable at agricultural supply stores. I heard that it commonly only has about 10% other chemicals added for this reason or that. Would that affect the report on a salute? I heard that it would be a problem if you were using the sulfur for a color additive. Also, due to the amounts of the products I would buy (One pound of aluminum and sulfur) I would probably use 25 parts sulfur and 25 parts aluminum. Basically, I want to know if this would be a waste of money, or unsafe. Thanks alot in advance! EDIT: I didn't see the newbie forum till about 20 minutes after I had posted this, so delete or lock this if its necessary, and I will repost it.

michigander Posted June 6, 2007 Author Posted June 6, 2007 I've already done a couple of smoke mixtures and used some BP. Also I've been reading about flash and other more questionable explosives for about a year now, not that that counts for much. You didn't say how effective the flash would be though. EDIT: So I just browsed the supplier forum and I might order 2 pounds of perchlorate from discount pyro, but I am still curious about that flash mixture. Also, I don't and never will have a desire to make pipe bombs
crazyboy25 Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 You didn't say how effective the flash would be though.effective for what? in your first post you mention salutes if you read the forum rules you will notice salutes are frowned upon here and you will get very little aid on their construction. i still sugest you wait until you are more expirineced but if you need it for something just use 70:30 mix dont use 90% sulfur in any thing dont use sulfur in flash it just makes it even more sensitive. also dark aluminum must be used for superior flash please dont post anymore about flash or salutes.
