Richtee Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 I guess I missed this. Hia folks. Old guy here. Been there done that silly stuff. Launched my first Estes rocket in August 1974. Took my first engine apart in Sept. '74. I know..I was cautious back then. Since then, 2 college degrees, neither in chem unfortunatly. Industrial electronics and E.E. Have been facinated for ever with pretty bright colors, screaming sounds and booms since..well..forever in my frame of reference. The old man was a fan too... and I'm pretty sure those WERE LEGAL M's that I recall as my first experience. He was a gun guy...excellent skeet/trap shooter. And reloader. Which I took small advantage of at times. Smokeless is a different animal, but still fun. So, now I'm all growed up, and have the luxury of a solid "old hand" network helping me learn the finer points. Alllrighty then... thanks for your time!
Mortarman Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 Hello all I am from Janesville Wi, I currently own and operate www.mortartubes.net and go to school fulltime. I love to do shows and watch shows. I can not wait to dig into all the info on this site. Thanks Cory
hst45 Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 Mortarman, welcome to the Forum. I took a look at the website, which is very well done by the way. It seems like you only offer 1.75" tubes, if I get your drift correctly. Generally we refer to tubes in diameter, not length, so your 12" and 15" tube references seem a bit confusing. Nice stuff, none the less. Richtee, your journey into the "black arts" seems to parallel mine to a great degree. I was a chemistry-set kid back in the 60's, my dad was a science teacher, and together we did all sorts of experiments in electronics, photography, meterology, astronomy, optics, rocketry, pyro, aviation, as well as sailing, navigation, woodworking and every sort of thing that one can do to be self sufficient. To this day I can't sit in front of a TV screen and watch some inane image dance in front of my eyes; I have to be doing something instead. The only thing that I didn't pick up from my dad was his musical ability. He played piano, guitar, recorder, flute, and banjo....all I can play is the radio
ghost Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 hello all, The name's Ghost, Playing with smoke comps right now. Having some trouble with my best one. more to follow
Flying dutchman Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 hH.I'm a debutant pyroman, but i'm goog in organic and inorganic chemistry.I'm 15years old.i live in France,so my english is bad and ugly.I would like to learn how to make greats effects with shells. Thanks for read.
oskarchem Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 Hi "Flying Dutchman", welcome to the forum. Just fo referance to other forum users, he is not a kn3wl "blowing shit up" (I know him personnally). He is keen to learn our butyful hobby. Smelt the smoke I guess.. Anyway, stay safe and start reading the 86page book "Aerial shells" posted in the Pyrotechnics part.
50AE Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 Welcome, Flying dutchman I'm glad to see another person from France interested in pyro. Well, I hope to see more and more french to start amateur pyrotechnics, even if it's illegal. It is in almost all Europe, but I ignore this law, I just hate it.Enjoy your staying here
Arqwat Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 Hey All, New here - been lurking for sometime now.Learned quite a bit from this forum.I'm into pyro - mostly as applied to rocket motors.I've been building & flying Sugar & APCP rockets for a couple years now. I love fireworks, but am more of a rocketeer than a pyro kinda guy.But . . Ocasionally I have the "itch" to build some simple displays . . . Arqwat
frogy Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 You're plenty welcome here... Nice to see some more members that can type properly *wooohooo* Many people here make rockets, so you'll obviously have a lot of people to discuss with. Cplmac seems to be the most "advanced" amateur in the Overall rocket-building category if you ask me. Though I'm not sure if he's ventured far into Composite propellants and such. BigBang is probably the man to go to for help with composite propellants. Nice to see some more rocketeers...
Arqwat Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 I'm an Aerospace Tech Writer by trade.I'm use to having every word, comma & paragraph slaughtered by an editor. Hence I tend to be picky about my typing - though Spell Checkers have probably kept me from being fired !! Im a rather small guy in the rocket program. Don't have any "great big ones" - I'm working on my L1 to get up to speed. My sugar flughts have been private or through NEFAR which is non NAR/TRA sanctioned - L2 is not required for sugar motors - they even allow the evil Sucrose Propellant ! Cheers
BigBang Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 Hey Arqwat! NEFAR ehh, has Jimmy converted you to sugar? I fly with FSA/TWP and TSF, only been to NEFAR once as the drive is killer, that is, unless I hitch a ride with Bernie. Shoot me a PM if you ever need help.
Flash04252 Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 I don't post much. Mostly read and observe. But friends call me Flash. I am an old timer and have been into this hobbie for awhile now. I am what you call an old timer i suppose (I'm 41) . I live in Maine and laws are strict (besides I have lived here for 20+ yrs., so the PD knows me by by sight.LOL) But anyhow, nice website and forum dedicated to this addiction to a passion of an obsesion. Good job!
dcberry Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Just stopped by to say top notch site with top notch contributors! I've been a pyro enthusiast for about 4 decades now in the last 20yrs I have gained a lot of respect for reactions due to close calls (stupidity) and am now reigniting my interest and want to fine tune my skills and methods to not only make life a little more spectacular but safer as well. Keep up the good work guys!!!
Niter Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 I'm a 35yo guy from Holland. Pyrotechnics and HE have been a hobby of mine all my life. Its in my blood.I hope to contribute and be part of this wonderful community. Totally fresh newbie but my experience with pyrotechnics spans more than two decades. My interest with fireworks is modest-to-miniature sized pieces. I'm VERY safety conscious. There are old pyros and bold pyros, but no old bold pyros!
Nitrato Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 Hi all. Im Nitrato , 18, and loves all interesting reactions and effects, but without being a "K3lw" since what I love actually is the chemistry behind these nice effects and for five years my hobby was just to make microscale experiments with some commom HE (AP, HMTD, HDN, NC, NG, CTMTNA and the like all of you already know ) and also BP, flash powder, etc.. But I always got very interested in making real pyrotechnic devices, with colours and special effects (sparks, etc) but weirdly, I'm modestly just starting now and reading with more care all good info I can about it (what mean that this forum is a real gold mine for every inquiring mind pyro)..Behind this, was the chemistry as hobby, that I joined much earlier.. This is my (still starting and very amateur) page about chemistry: http://www.geocities.com/ttnitrato/home.html that as soon I get mastered into pyrotechnics hobby I put it also in another special section that I will creat. Joining together Pyro and Chem is one of my goals. Now also I'm very interested in foundrywork, ceramics and electronic stuff.. To be frankly, all sorts of sciences that could in one or another way be crazy and just used for entertaining and amusement, get my attention.. Thank you staff and members to mantain live this very great forum that discuss about one of the most interesting hobbies in the world: pyrotechnic stuff.. Not only a science but an art as well.
lostfido Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 Hello all, my name is Cully and I'm from the land of 10,000 lakes (Minnesota)I've been into consumer 1.4g pyrotechnics for a lot of years and am just starting to get interested in building shells and rockets.Have been lurking here for quite a while and learing every time I stop in. Looking forward to getting educated on all aspects of building shells and rockets.
Mumbles Posted July 27, 2008 Author Posted July 27, 2008 I'm not sure where you live in MN, but you may want to think about joining one of the local pyro clubs around. There is theoretically one in Fargo, but I haven't heard anything about it really. There is the northern lighters, and I don't know where they meet exactly. There is also the WPAG, which meets around Wausau, WI. The WPAG has several members from MN, so you might even be able to find someone to share a ride with. All three would be excellent resources for getting started.
TheSidewinder Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 If that location is accurate, he's no more than a half-hour from me. Lostfido, I'm in St. Paul and a WPAG member. This has been a disastrous year for me, financially, but I WILL be going to the August 23rd WPAG meeting. If you have any interest in going, they have a $10 one-week trial membership. Share gas cost with me, and you're welcome to ride along when I go. It'll be a long day, though, since I'll leave around 9am on the 23rd, and return that night. Probably won't get back until after 2am Sunday. Wausau is almost 4 hours away. PM me if you're interested. The Northern Lighters is almost exclusively professional shooters. Since hobby pyro in Minnesota is a dead topic, they can't get together and shoot freely. Who the hell would want to meet to light sparklers and 1.4 fountains? The Fargo Club is still "on paper" last I heard. And Wausau is still closer than Fargo.
etopic5 Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 Hello everyone,I'm Edi from sunny Croatia, i'm intrested in chemistry (pyrotechnics), electronics, physics.Your forum is one of best specialised forum i've ever seen Right now I'm on LP rocketry, KNSB propellants and so.Pozdrav iz Hrvatske.
TheSidewinder Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 Welcome to the Forums, Edi. Have a good look around, read all you can, and ask questions about anything you don't understand. All we ask is that you use the Search feature before asking, to make sure it hasn't been covered already (sometimes dozens of times ).
due559 Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 (edited) Hello, My name is Eric and I'm from California. I've been lurking for well over a year and posted a few times.I'm more into rocketry at the moment and will probably get into other areas in pyro soon. Edited July 28, 2008 by due559
TheSidewinder Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 And welcome to you, too! Glad to have you onboard. Some day, California may see the errors of their ways and allow fireworks. Minnesota might, too. (And maybe some day the Vikings will win a Super Bowl. Or pigs will fly..... )
Brian809 Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 Hello all! My name is Brian (obviously), I've been coming to this site for a few months now reading...watching...learning. I am from the US, specifically New Hampshire. I've had success with many small pyro projects and moved up to 3" shells 2 of which were launched sat. night, they performed ok but much work is needed. I am grateful for this site and read it everyday and thank everyone who works hard to keep this site running! To show my appreciation I just donated! Keep up the good work everyone and be safe! Brian
TheSidewinder Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 Your donation has been received, and is greatly appreciated. Thank you! You've been moved to the Donator Group. Glad to have you aboard.
Nerdlock Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 (edited) I'm Elliott from Cincinnati. I am glad i found this forum because before this I was using totse for information (I did a few stupid things). I am mostly into fountains and smoke. My Youtube channel Edited August 9, 2008 by Nerdlock
