Tiger Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 (edited) Hello, When I was a kid I used to experiment a bit with pyro and amateur rocketry, my dad experimented a lot when he was a kid, he showed me how to make black powder. But in the last decade I haven't touch that, I moved out of the country side, to study and got a job in a big city...so I didn't had much time or space to try anything Last summer I went on course for the army ( I'm a reservist ) and some of the pyro we got to use woke up some old souvenir and even if as a civilian I can buy/own some of them already made, I'm curious about building some by myself, but l'll have a few technical questions :-) Edited December 27, 2014 by Tiger
Aeralius Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 Hello everyone, Pyrotechnics have always been a source of awe in my life, but I only discovered recently that knowledge of the craft is in my reach. I think that my patient, perfectionistic nature will serve me well in the field. Most of all, the chemistry intrigues my math-brain...I'd be interested in learning how to acquire and process materials from natural/easily available sources, starting from scratch. Thank you all in advance. It's nice to find people so passionate about their craft.

Learn from other people's mistakes. (Your own mistakes hurts too much)2. Innovation is good. But the known is always best.

fish7days Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Hey Everyone, Andre in Weston, FL. Newbie and just joined to gain more knowledge and hopefully at some point also share some. I have taken a liking to aerial shells and will probably start with 3" shells and some kind of charcoal TT's. Been watching some Ned Gorski videos and will follow his route to make some basic aerials as a start. I would be interested in meeting members in South Florida. Thanks to the owner of the board for making it available !! Andre

vizzer Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Hello, I'm John living about 50 miles from the geographic center of Texas. I want to thank everyone here, including dagabu, for making it so easy to spend money! The 1/3 HP ball mill motor arrived today, and rocket supplies are soon to be ordered... I was talking to a friend today about this site, and the appeal of pyrotechnics to the people who put so much into it: "It's a challenging field that you really have to put yourself into, and then you make things explode." Which kind of puts it in a nutshell to me. John 1

JohnSo, actually it's a 3/4 HP motor, and it's a monster. But I'm told it will never got hot, and it'll last a loooong time.
Z9Aa Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Hello Everyone, I am from Eastern Canada. My main hobby for the last eight years or so has been HE, but during that time I did take a period of making a lot of black powder rockets and even made a few pill bottle sized aerial shells. I don't have a lot of fireworks experience, but the first time I made crude black powder was close to thirty years ago. Nice forum you have here.
