jdahmer Posted February 23, 2022 Posted February 23, 2022 I've made from Magnalium FP and was wondering how much you can trust this stuff..My recipe :50 Magnalium30 KNO320 SulphurIs this safe to store in salutes (fire crackers) for like 6 months in a shed?
Carbon796 Posted February 23, 2022 Posted February 23, 2022 Should be fine as long as its kept dry. The finer & better quality the Mg/Al source, the faster it may degrade, if not kept dry. If you swap the kno3 & Mg/Al percentage's it'll probably perform better. Per the standard 5:3:2 formula.
Arthur Posted February 24, 2022 Posted February 24, 2022 Storage time usually depends more on the humidity in your location. High humidity short storage life.
Mumbles Posted February 24, 2022 Posted February 24, 2022 It's also worth noting that nitrate based flash powders probably have a diminished shelf life compared to other compositions involving perchlorate. The moisture issue Arthur mentioned is worse with nitrate based comps.
Richtee Posted February 25, 2022 Posted February 25, 2022 (edited) Maybe a dip in thinned bee’s wax or something- Spray of shellac?. Prolly best you don’t store them period. Legalities/Magazine issues. It’s not a well accepted hobby by alot of people/agencies PS: Yer ratios are not correct for max effect, as noted earlier. Edited February 25, 2022 by Richtee
