Bensmith Posted February 8, 2022 Posted February 8, 2022 The new generation of the precision time fuse cutting and punching machine is coming along quite nicely. Though similar in function to the previous version (pictured below for reference), this new model is a complete redesign from the ground up. Tons of new features to make punching and cutting easier and more precise. Some key features that are depicted in the images below: - The arbor frame has been significantly shortened and the pivot point between the punching piston and the rear of the handle has been cut in half. This will reduce the effort needed to punch time fuse for cross match by a significant amount. - The base plate has been totally reconfigured. It is now a bit narrower but quite a bit deeper. This provides additional stability and more locations to bolt the machine to your workbench. The debris cavity that collects the punching leftovers is much larger and now features a channel that is used to blow the debris out of the machine so they don't build up. The base plate also has a handy fuse collection tray to keep processed time fuse from rolling around your workbench. - The cutting indexer is another complete redesign. Immediately noticeable is the ruler that is machined directly into the indexer. Much more precise and easier to use than the previous version. Not visible is the leadscrew used to adjust the length of the time fuse. Instead of a simple screw that goes through the fuse channel, the new setup is completely enclosed in the indexer and will feature a bronze slide that rides in the fuse channel. Much more precise and easier to use. - We had hoped to have these finished up before WinterBlast, but there is still quite a bit of machining to do. We hope to have these finished up the week of the 21st. As indicated by the panoramic photo, we made a bunch of them! A few are still available.
