Looking for a delay composition

I am looking for a delay composition, I found a few on the internet but they are too exotic.

 

For example:

60 Barium chromate

26 Zirconium-nickel alloy

14 Potassium perchlorate

 

I don't have access to these materials except for the perchlorate.

 

The effect I want to achieve is like this one

You can see that the strobe has a long delay composition around it and then when break is at max it starts to strobe. I want to create something similar.

 

The delay composition looks to be somekind of lampblack effect. You can see the trails of it but with very little light output.

 

I have tried different black powder compositions, but they output either too much light, or they give a spark trail if using more charcoal.

I also want to avoid using perchlorate, as this is a very expensive chemical for me, so I preffer to use Potassium Nitrate only.

 

I came accross this composition, and thought, maybe this will works as a good delay composition?

 

'Golden rain #1'

48 Potassium nitrate

32 Sulfur

20 Lampblack

 

Anyone has any tips or compositions?

You can try this. KNO3 - 50, Charcoal (Air float) - 20, Sulfur - 17, NaHCO3 - 3. But this composition will leave a trail.

 

But better use Barium Chromate - 90 and Boron - 10.

There are many primes, add enough prime to small strobes that they burn as you want. Suggest a 10mm star made to 20mm or more with prime

 

That site is indeed slow, so slow it shows me 'this site is not reachable'. It loaded in the end tho, thanks for the link, ive not seen that site thus far. (or maybe I did and thought it was broken)

Thanks for thinking with me, I appreciate.

I want to avoid it having a visible tail. As for your suggestion for Barium Chromate, I can't obtain that, well .. not cheaply atleast, same for Boron.

Dr Shimizu's changing relay is a very good one . Its low light and Ignites well. I use it in Saturn shells for my ring.

 

Potassium perchlorate 35 %

Potassium nitrate 35%

Hemp ch (Paulownia ch)24%

Srgs 6%

 

Or

 

Potassium perchlorate 81%

Accroides resin or red gum 13%

Srgs 6%

Applies via toro method for round stars

Adding 70/30 water alcohol with small stars and just straight water with larger stars(to wet the Toro comp).

 

Hardt color changing relay

Kno3. 35%

Kclo4 35%

Charcoal air float 25%

Dextrin 5%

Yeah, Ive used these in the past, however, they use KClO4 which I want to avoid because its such a precious chemical for me :/

 

I have followed Arthurs advice, I just rolled a 5mm slow burning black powder like prime around them. I used a bit more sulfur and added Phenolic resin to make it slower burning.

Sounds doable... Unless your comp needs a little more heat to get ignition
